Bryn Canaid

This traditional croglofft cottage dates to the 19th century and was once home to the herbalist Anne Griffiths. Sensitively reimagined in recent years, Bryn Canaid balances its historic character – flagstone floors and timber trusses – with understated contemporary comfort. The bright kitchen flows naturally into the living space, where a vaulted croglofft mezzanine rises overhead, creating a striking sense of volume, whilst a woodburner set within the former inglenook fireplace forms a welcoming focal point. Along the hallway, a sleek ceramic-tiled bathroom with a walk-in shower sits alongside two bedrooms, each enjoying far-reaching views towards the sea. A separate garage provides practical utility space, complete with white goods, including a dishwasher.

The house sits lightly within its landscape, with ancient fields to one side and dramatic seascapes to the other. Directly outside the cottage, a seating area invites quiet moments watching weather drift across Bardsey Sound, whilst a green lane leads to the coastal path and hidden coves below, where dolphins are often spotted. Mynydd Mawr and the peninsula’s rugged shoreline lie moments away, offering ample opportunity for walking and birdwatching. Between March and October, ferries run to Bardsey Island, a place of archaeological significance, prized equally for its wildlife, including seals and puffins. Bryn Canaid also serves as an ideal base from which to explore the Llŷn Peninsula’s sandy beaches and seaside villages, including Aberdaron and Llanbedrog, or Portmeirion lies in easy reach by car.
