Luxury self-catering accommodation in Marhamchurch

At the top of the rugged north Cornish coast, this sleepy backwater is all cream tea charm, its ancient stone buildings set into miles of rolling farmland.

For those who wish for jolly seaside day trips but with a quiet base to relax, Marhamchurch village is a perfect pitstop set back from the coast, with walks and wildlife right on the doorstep. The village takes its name from St Marwenne, a Celtic saint who founded an ancient hermitage here. Time your stay for the annual 'Revel' and you might catch a spot of some impressive Cornish wrestling and dancing, as well as the crowning of the Revel Queen.

Beautiful Bude is just a stone's throw to the north and has a long stretch of golden sand plus a sea pool at Summerleaze Beach, built under the curve of the cliffs in the 1930s and enjoyed by thousands of guests ever since. For two-wheel tourists, it's possible to hire a bike at the coast and cycle all the way back to Marhamchurch, taking in town and country plus a river bridge en route. A rewarding drink in the Bullers Arms is the prize for completing the route.
