Introduction

Nestled within one of the ‘great gardens of Cornwall’ and just a short drive from the paradise beaches of the southern coast, The Hamptons offers a peaceful haven just a hop, skip and a jump from chocolate box fishing villages and deserted stretches of sand. As calming inside as the outside is beautiful, this luxury self-catering cottage flaunts simple, elegant flair with original artwork (painted by the owner herself!) and delicate hues throughout; the perfect spot for throwing caution to the wind and shirking all responsibility.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The Hamptons has two beautifully appointed en suite bedrooms, one super king zip-and-link with a separate dressing room, walk-in shower and stand-alone, double-ended bath tub and one pretty twin with a walk-in rainfall shower. Adorned with fine linens, soft rugs and cool tones, these exquisite bedrooms encourage the deepest of sleep and sweetest of dreams and longest of lie-ins.

Outside

Grab a good book, glass of something chilled and a blanket to sprawl out on and while away afternoons in the dappled shade under the trees. With 20 acres of country estate encompassing walled gardens, magical woodlands and meandering lakes, there are opportunities en masse to find a solitary and quiet spot. Children will delight in the separate snug room, which they can claim as their own for den building and games away from grown-ups in the main cottage.

For Relaxation

With oodles of coastline to tramp over and plenty of secret beaches to discover, take to the cliffs with a picnic and some hardy hiking boots and spend a day wandering. The turquoise waters of Kynance Cove are just a short drive from The Hamptons and offer opportunities to discover smuggler’s coves, indulge in rich ice cream or simply lie back in the summer rays. In winter, cosy up on the soft rug, woodburner happily crackling away and board games strewn across the coffee table.

Practicalities

There is ample parking for two to three cars. The kitchen includes both fan and conventional ovens with grill and hob, plus a dishwasher, fridge and freezer. The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Our Take

Interior Design Consultant Jess says

I visited this fabulous property whilst being filmed for Caroline Quentin’s ‘Cornwall’ TV show, and absolutely fell in love with it. So peaceful and tranquil, and in the most beautiful setting within a sprawling 20 acre estate; the colourful estate gardens are the crowning glory of this unique home.

FOOD AND DRINK

Home-Cooked

Make full use of the well-equipped kitchen and impress family with your culinary skills. There are many idyllic spots within the gardens for picnicking opportunities in summer months. Nothing goes better with a picnic than fresh strawberries and rich, Cornish clotted cream, so make sure you stock up on the local fare from the nearby local shop.

In-House Cuisine

If you’d rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

The Lizard peninsula with its plethora of coves and harbours has a wealth of excellent eateries to choose from; Gear Farm grow organic veg which they use to make their own pasties (voted one of the best in Cornwall). The nearby New Yard restaurant serves up a tantalising selection of local produce with fish caught by local day boats, game from the estate, and just about everything is made on site. Kota and Square in Porthleven both come highly recommended.
