Luxury self-catering accommodation in Penzance
Ships, smugglers and a magical castle topped island that's accessed by a tide-covered causeway; this major Cornish port has much to offer inquisitive guests.
Far down the Cornish peninsula, tucked neatly away is the sheltered maritime port of Penzance. Gateway to the Isles of Scilly, and popular with guests who are staying nearby, searching for a slice of coastal life. With the quaint villages of Mousehole and Marazion on either side, the larger town of Penzance has all the shops, museums and attractions that comprise a fine day out by the seaside. The harbour, once essential for Cornwall's tin trade, still bustles with fishing boats and serves as the ferry terminal for trips over to the pretty Isles of Scilly, almost 30 miles out to sea.
The Scillies are renowned for having a mild climate, and these swaying palms and sub-tropical plants can also be found in Penzance. A few metres off-shore a unique sight can be spied; the tiny island of St Michael's Mount floating just out to sea (there's a twin island in France of the same name). The stunning castle, extensive grounds and gardens make for a fun day's exploration and the island is accessible by picking across a causeway when the tide is low. Depending on time and tide, guests can hop on a boat to cross when the path is submerged by waves.
