Effortlessly stylish, The Cowshed is the epitome of contemporary country chic cottage living. This bucolic haven is nestled in a sleepy hamlet on the fringe of Chagford in Devon; the jewel within the wilds of Dartmoor. Beneath its stone and vine façade, this former cowshed has been exquisitely redesigned into a luxury cottage, idyllic for those wanting a decadent self-catering escape.
The sought-after town of Chagford melds a traditional Devonshire charm with a lustrous vibrancy, luring visitors from far and wide who come to explore the vast and varied terrains of Dartmoor. Set within a private horseshoe courtyard of five Grade II-listed properties, The Cowshed is a luxury cottage offering small groups a sublime holiday retreat. Within the creeping fig and grapevine camouflage, clean lines and natural hues provide the neutral backdrop for soft furs, country tweed and vintage railway prints, giving this elegant abode a touch of rustic luxe.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
This topsy-turvy Devon cottage has two beautifully-appointed bedrooms and a separate WC on the ground floor. The first double bedroom includes an en suite shower room, with a nod to the nautical through reclaimed wood effect wallpaper, a porthole mirror and rustic rope accessories. The other features an en suite bathroom and super-king zip-and-link bed which is countrified with studded wool and adorned with a chunky cable knit throw for keeping cosy on those crisp winter nights.
Set in the heart of Devon's ambrosial countryside, The Cowshed is perfectly positioned for those wanting to explore the rugged terrain of Dartmoor, with no less than 250 square miles of beautiful open moorland waiting to be discovered. From gentle rambles in wildflower pastures on clement days to horseback gallops and challenging hikes through the infamous Dartmoor mists; there are adventures for all. The Cowshed has its own small private terrace at the front of the house where you can sit back and enjoy a fresh morning coffee under the shade of the lofty rowan tree.
Explore the delights of this quintessential stannary town, bursting with charm and full to the brim with quaint shops, tearooms and traditional pubs offering a warm welcome to all who pass through. Chagford is riddled with folklore and the handsome 15th and 16th century buildings bring it back to life, whispering tales of times past. With Gidleigh Park less than three miles away, don your finest evening attire and head to this stunning country house, voted the UK's number one restaurant by the Sunday Times Food List 2014. To top off a five-star dining experience, retreat back to the cottage and pour yourself a nightcap to savour by the roaring log fire; country living at its finest!

Property Owner Gemma says
I fell in love with The Cowshed at first sight; its tiny Juliette balconies, porthole windows and charisma in abundance made it just perfect! Close enough to civilisation so that you can walk to the pub for supper, but far enough away to be blissfully peaceful, the cottage is a true cocoon hideaway.
FOOD AND DRINK
The well-equipped kitchen is splendidly stylish and makes dinners a delight to prepare. The Aga provides the ultimate country cooking experience, so challenge your culinary skills with a hearty Devonshire roast dinner for the whole family, who can get started with a class of champagne and smoked salmon appetisers by the crackling fire.
If you'd rather spend your break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).
For that special occasion, look no further than the famous Gidleigh Park, just two and a half miles away, and let two Michelin starred chef Michael Caines wow you with his award-winning dining. For good home-cooked pub grub, there is a great selection of traditional inns within easy reach. Each bursting with character, take your pick from The Globe Inn, The Ring O' Bells or The Fingle Bridge Inn nearby.
