Flaunting all that is good and great about sunny South Devon, Phillimores is an intriguing blend of the traditional and the stylish. This 17th century luxury cottage is idyllically cosseted in a wooded valley not far from Kingsbridge in the much-adored South Hams region of Devon. This luxury holiday cottage's enigma lies in its traditional warm Devonshire welcome and juxtaposing cool Scandi-inspired interiorscape.
This irresistible luxury holiday cottage in Devon is set down a quiet country lane with just a handful of other cottages nestled within the picturesque valley environs, just a short stroll from the River Avon. Phillimores' olde worlde exterior betrays the spacious and luxury living areas within where mod cons sit seamlessly alongside age-old comforts such as the cream Rayburn and huge open fire. Summer days enjoyed at the seaside will create cherished family memories of a time well spent.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Three exquisitely-designed bedrooms reside on the first floor of this gorgeous home and can be reached via a choice of two staircases at either end of the cottage. There are two spacious super-king bedrooms as well as a bunk room (with trundle bed) perfect for children. The master bedroom has easy staircase access to the ground floor shower room, whilst the shared family bathroom on the first floor exudes a sleek coolness that promises the most rejuvenating pampering experience.
Nestled into a hillside within Woodleigh Glen, the approach to Phillimores' via the winding country lane will evoke excitement as finches and bunnies dart for cover within the tumbling hedgerows which are alive with nature. The steeply-tiered back garden boasts breath-taking views across the valley and provide the perfect spot for a sundowner G&T when the children have gone to bed, whilst the front fruit tree-filled garden is crying out for games of hide-and-seek. With behemothic granite tors soaring high above the wild and dramatic moorland landscape, nearby Dartmoor is an ancient and compelling landscape which provides a stark contrast to the cheery lines of beach-huts and stretches of golden sand for which South Devon is most famed.
Long a hotspot for the fashionable yachtie set, local town Kingsbridge is the perfect medley of buzzing traditional English market town and a tranquil milieu set around its own little estuary. Day trips to foodie destination Noss Mayo, sailing Mecca Salcombe and the golden dunes of Bantham and Hope Cove will be high on the holiday itinerary when staying at Phillimores. Artsy Dartmouth and the bohemian town of nearby Totnes have between them a wealth of galleries and independent shops to satisfy creatives.
There is parking for up to three cars at the top of the rear garden, and space for unloading one car to the front of the house. Phillimores has a woodburner and an open fire, as well as underfloor heating beneath the stone floors. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer concealed within the ground floor wet room. The property is well-equipped with Rayburn, large fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Please note that due to the stair design, unfortunately it is not possible to fix a stair gate.

FOOD AND DRINK
Without doubt the heart of this beautiful home, the whole family can get involved in preparing supper in the traditional open plan kitchen and dining room, where you'll find a Rayburn and all mod cons. Fling open the doors which lead directly onto the garden for al fresco suppers and light lunches in the sunshine.
If you'd rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).
Salcombe is just 15 minutes away where you will find plenty of eateries and fine dining opportunities among the sailing fraternity who favour this sailing Mecca . The New Angel, Dartmouth, is around half an hour from the house and highly recommended. Plymouth is not far away and counts high-profile chefs Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Mitch Tonks among its newly generated waterfront foodie area.
