The Pomegranate Tree

West Anstey, South Molton, Exmoor, Devon, UK

Surrounded by evergreens on the edge of Exmoor National Park in north Devon, The Pomegranate Tree is a peaceful escape chock-full of 16th century charm. The south-facing garden overlooking West Anstey begs for sweet summer snoozing between the daisies, but when the winds are raging and snow falling, roaring woodburners make for irresistibly snug hibernation.

Introduction

Settled right on the Two Moors Way and with views of Exmoor sprawling out in dramatic splendour, The Pomegranate Tree is a luxury cottage where hikers and nature-lovers will feel right at home. Set high in the picture-perfect Devon village of West Anstey and in Europe’s first Dark Sky Reserve, here is a place where peaceful rejuvenation comes arm in arm with a re-connection to the great outdoors. Spend days rambling across blustery tors and bathing on golden sands before returning for a night sipping wine under diamond-studded skies.

Inside

Three bedrooms, all tastefully decorated with natural wood, gentle florals and soft rugs, reside on the Pomegranate Tree’s first floor, where sweeping vistas over the garden and rural Devon stretch on and on from every window. Downstairs in the heart of the house, bright colour meets traditional low-slung timber beams, carefully selected antiques contrast with statement Cole & Son wallpaper and crackling fires encourage wild winter evenings spent inside with a marathon of board games, oversized jumpers and red wine.

Outside

Stargazing, wild swimming and undulating countryside tracks just waiting to be trampled on; relaxation is a given at any stay at The Pomegranate Tree. For guests who believe wholeheartedly that holidays are to be spent at a more leisurely pace, there are beaches and tearooms and pub gardens galore all hidden within the wilds of Exmoor National Park. Armed with a portable barbecue and sausages from Little Mead Meats, drive over the moors and settle by the sea for a traditional Devon supper on the sands of Blue Anchor Bay.

From the owner

“Set in an area of acclaimed Dark Skies, The Pomegranate Tree is the perfect spot for stargazing. We just love to spend long summer nights eating and drinking in the garden, watching the darkness envelop the trees and sparkling stars light up the heavens. It´s unlike anywhere we have ever been!”

From the owner

Welcome to our lovely 16th century home in West Anstey in North Devon, just next to the historic church of St Petrock right on the edge of Exmoor.

Sitting in three-quarters of an acre of landscaped gardens, with a stream-fed pond and views to the church and countryside beyond, The Pomegranate Tree is the perfect place for nature-lovers, and anyone looking to get away from the daily grind.

Our home has been sympathetically restored from its days as a church meeting room and is just the most wonderful place to hole up against those wild storms we are so used to in this part of the world. In the summer, please enjoy the gardens as we do; with a bottle of wine enjoyed under the stars, owls calling in the trees all around.
