Set on the fringe of Shipton Gorge near Burton Bradstock, this elegant family home is idyllically positioned just three miles from the Jurassic Coast with its unique landscape of dramatic sea cliffs, Olympic-class sailing waters and golden beaches packed with fossils.

Approached via a winding country lane flanked by rolling green pastures, Prairie De Gorge is sure to delight discerning families looking for a luxury self-catering home stay in a picture-perfect setting near Burton Bradstock. Behind the golden Dorset stone exterior, this family home captures a romantic French country style. Antiqued furnishings and floral fabrics are set against a calming colour palette complemented with tints of chalky blue and rose.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

On the ground floor, there is a shower room with WC and twin bedroom which will be adored by children. The first floor comprises a family bathroom containing a WC, bath, overhead shower, and separate shower area, along with two beautifully appointed double bedrooms. The luxurious master suite enjoys views over the patchwork countryside and glimpses towards the iconic coastline beyond. While the other is slightly cosier, its romantic English theme and sumptuous linens ensure it certainly doesn't compromise on luxury.


The courtyard with pretty knot garden will be a favourite spot for adults to enjoy the tranquil setting with an afternoon tipple, while children play in the grassy paddock alongside. Armed with brimming picnic baskets, buckets and spades, take the three mile jaunt to the Jurassic Coast for a jolly day at the seaside. When sun-kissed families head home to rest their sleepy heads after a day of frolicking in the waves, the mesmerising night's sky promises to bring a magical end to the day - there is no better place for stargazing than in the still surrounds of this rural homestead.

Take the short country ramble down to the characterful New Inn in Shipton Gorge and refuel with a hearty supper in the warm company of the welcoming locals. On winter days the log fire will be the heart of the home, where families can cosy up with board games and rounds of home-made cakes and tea, indulging in good old-fashioned quality time together.


There is parking for two cars beside the property. The friendly owner lives in the adjacent house. This luxury home stay is well equipped, with combined washer-dryer, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and electric oven with grill and induction hob.

Don't Forget Your Walking Boots Prairie De Gorge is idyllically situated between West Bay and Hive Beach, and makes an ideal base for exploring the Jurassic Coast. Fossil hunters will delight at the dramatic landscape, where some of the rocks on Chesil beach are up to 200 million years old! Visit the early 15th Century St Martins Church, visible from almost every viewpoint in Shipton Gorge.

On Horseback Bidlake Farm riding stables at Broadoak (just north of Bridport) offer tailor-made rides to suit all capabilities, whether it's a gentle family hack or something a little more lively for more experienced riders.

All Creatures Great and Small Visit the only public swannery in the UK at nearby Abbotsbury. Families also have the opportunity to visit the tropical gardens and child-friendly zoo to complete a fun-filled day.

All Aboard! Boat trips from West Bay make for a great family day out. Fishing fanatics will relish the chance to catch mackerel directly off Hive Beach.

Roll Up, Roll Up! The bustling town of Bridport is only ten minutes away, so be sure to catch the weekly markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. With a multitude of established market traders offering antiques, delicatessens, clothing, plants and more, it’s the perfect place to stock up on unique treats and treasures before you head home.

Underwater Adventures
 With the coast less than three miles away, why not jump in at the deep end and try your hand at SCUBA diving? Hive Beach (listed as a World Heritage Site) is a popular shore dive spot and the perfect place for a beginner's first underwater experience.

Nearest Beaches 2.6 miles to Hive Beach, 3.6 miles to West Bay Harbour.



The open plan kitchen-diner has French doors leading to the courtyard. Serve breakfast with the doors pulled open, letting the country breeze carry the smell of fresh bread and bacon outside to lure children from the garden. The BBQ will be a favourite during warmer months when families can make the most of the long summer days.

For a taste of the ocean, head down to the harbour at West Bay and dine at The Riverside which serves up excellent seafood all year round.
