Ever After | Luxury Self-Catering Home with Pool | High Weald, Kent

Ever After

Chiddingstone, High Weald, Kent, UK

Surrounded by fields of daisies and the breathtaking scenery of the High Weald, Ever After is a picture-perfect holiday home blissfully set within 57 acres of private grounds in Kent. Once belonging to the family of beloved British author Roger Hargreaves, famous for his Mr. Men and Little Miss stories, this Grade-II listed country house with its own heated swimming pool and hot tub affords families the chance to get lost amongst the pages of their own tale of enchantment. Happily Ever After.

Ever After mingles 21st century contemporary design with antiquated notions that speak of 15th century Tudor charm, in a pitch-perfect harmony of old-meets-new. Outside offers acres of immaculate country house gardens, whilst inside juxtaposes restored inglenook fires, diamond-pane windows and exposed oak beams with minimalist design features such as glass and polished steel. Perfect for luxury self-catering family holidays, start days with a morning swim in the pool followed by breakfast on the terrace. Fuelled and ready to go, discover the woodland trails and medieval manors that pepper the High Weald.

Masterfully pairing period features with clean contemporary design, Ever After is a page-turner in itself. The abundance of space affords room for grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles to come together for an extended family gathering. After jovial suppers in the open-plan dining room, gather in the lounge to share fireside conversation and trays of artisan chocolates. While grown-ups crack open a bottle, children can claim the ground floor television room as a den of their own. Sleeping ten guests and one dog, ascend the unique glass staircase to end the day in one of the five dreamy bedrooms, each appointed in calming colour palettes.

Approached by a gated drive within High Weald rural Kent, families can look forward to long summer holidays relishing Ever After’s quintessentially English country garden. Mature trees and beds of fragrant blooms decorate the grounds, set on ribbons of luscious green lawns as neat as if they've been mown by Mr. Fussy himself. Little ones are sure to have hours of fun with their own ‘Little Miss Playhouse’, year-round putting green, croquet set and outdoor swimming pool to splash about in until well past bedtime. In the evening, it's outside feasts around the smoking pizza oven.

From the owner

“As soon as you enter the electric entrance gates half way along the long private driveway you will be in a haven of tranquillity here. You´ll feel total relaxation in the quiet rural setting, surrounded on all sides by gardens and farmland, with panoramic views of local countryside. We may be biased, but we couldn´t think of anywhere better.”

From the owner

Grade-II listed and dated as 15th century, Ever After was originally built as two cottages. The properties were combined and extended in the late 18th century to form one large country house, benefiting from a quiet and private setting within High Weald.

In more recent years the house was owned by the family behind the Mr Men, hence some references to the Mr Men and Little Miss books you'll find as you wander around.

Working with the local council, we undertook a project of refurbishment when we bought the house. We further extended and fully renovated it to blend the character and charm of the original beamed property with a modern steel and glass extension for 21st century living.

It's been a labour of love and we are delighted with the results. If you decide to enjoy a magical stay at Ever After, we hope you have a wonderful time whatever occasion brings you here!

The most perfect location to celebrate a special 30th birthday! Thank you for sharing your beautiful house which is luxurious in every sense of the word. We even woke up to deer in the garden who came to say hello!

We had such a special stay here, what a beautiful home you have. Thank you for letting us stay; we love the decor, games room, golf green, and much much more!

The most perfect location to celebrate a special 30th Birthday! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. Ever After was luxurious in every sense of the word. We even woke up to ten deer in the garden who came to say hello! The children were spoilt with games and the swimming pool, even in November. A truly luxurious and stunning home in a beautiful setting. Certainly a treat. Thank You!

We had the most wonderful time and truly enjoyed every aspect of the house and our stay. It was a pleasure meeting the owner when we departed which was a lovely personal touch.

We loved Ever After and it fully met our expectations. The personalised books with the children´s names was such a lovely touch. The house is multi-generational and we enjoyed walking in the gardens, playing in the playhouse, using the putting green, the games room and the pizza oven. The house was well stocked with games and books, the children especially enjoyed the Julia Donaldson books. We also saw lots of different birds, deer and a squirrel visited daily. The owner was very welcoming and helpful too.

Such a beautiful property with a warm ambience throughout, its stunning original features, contemporary twist and private setting makes it perfect for family get-togethers.
