Castaway promises to keep romantic affairs a forever secret and makes the ultimate destination for star-crossed lovers to flee. This luxury self-catering cottage boasts outside hot tub and access to a private beach across the water from Ullapool in Scotland. The lucky among you may even spy a school of whales emerging from the deep blue! Formerly part of a renowned two-starred Michelin restaurant, this 300 year old dwelling harbours an enchanting history. Once only accessible by boat, it has attracted a wealth of famous faces and intriguing characters wanting to get away from it all.
Bedrooms and Bathroom
The wood-clad ceilings and rustic stone walls create a mountain lodge appeal in this characterful highland cottage. The en suite bathroom features a bath tub with shower attachment. Turn the lights out and gaze up at the twinkling stars above from the bubble bath, before retreating to the king-size four poster bed for an uninterrupted night’s slumber.
With the magic touch of the Gulf Stream, Loch Broom enjoys a mild climate which is perfectly exemplified at the subtropical gardens of Inverewe, well worth a visit. Toughened souls will relish an exhilarating climb up An Teallach; dubbed “the great wilderness”, the fabled mountain has ten distinct summits over 3,000 feet and forms part of the iconic Munros of Scotland. For those who simply want to enjoy the sanctuary of Castaway, relax in the outside hot tub and tuck into romantic picnics in the garden listening to the songbirds above. When the clouds grow heavy and burst their seams, dodge the raindrops and dive into the loch for a fresh saltwater frolic.
Nature lovers will be enraptured by the abundance of wildlife on the doorstep; from otters, seals and dolphins in the waters to red deer on land and soaring eagles above. Rich in beauty and heritage, look forward to fishing trips, highland walks and ambles around historical sites a plenty. After a day exploring this stunning fold of Scotland, return to Castaway for a hearty supper by the log fire. Don't miss the sunset from the beach; watch it catch the mountainous skyline ablaze in shades of glowing amber and amethyst.
Let the anticipation build as you reach the final mile to your unique destination. The unmade track means an all-wheel drive vehicle is necessary for this part of the journey. Those with a low-slung vehicle can hire one in Inverness or alternatively, for a small fee, the owners can taxi you upon request. The owners live next door and will happily discuss the various options and help with transport needs, including providing boat transport from Ullapool. Castaway has a fridge, freezer, oven, hob, microwave, washing machine and dryer.

We chose to live in the Highlands of Scotland in order to get away from the stresses of life that we had endured for so many years. The extraordinary natural beauty of this unique place will change our visitors forever once they have been immersed in the tranquillity and serenity that is Castaway!
FOOD AND DRINK
This luxury self-catering cottage has everything you need to cook up a Scottish storm for your loved one. Catch the boat to Ullapool to pick up local cheeses, smoked salmon and not forgetting some Stornoway black pudding to trial. The fish 'straight out of the sea' that is delivered to the jetty by local fishing boats is nothing short of spectacular!
If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).
Experience a classic Scottish coaching inn with a visit to The Old Inn, overlooking Gairloch Harbour thirty miles away from Castaway. The best of local produce, real ales and outstanding seafood dishes have won The Old Inn several 'Pub of The Year' awards. Travel a little further to find The Torridon Restaurant by Achnasheen. With it's three rosette dining, this celebrated eatery is set in 58 acres of parkland at the end of a magnificent sea loch.
