Step through the looking glass and enter an oasis of lush verdure and unparalleled splendour at this luxury self-catering home idyllically set between Bath and Castle Combe. Valentina’s Lost Orangery holds an inspiring story and sits beside explorer Sir Walter Raleigh's old hunting lodge. Today, a romantic retreat embellished with dripping chandeliers, tropical palms and lemon trees, this in-vogue home offers unique luxury breaks and weddings fit for a king.
Hidden between beautiful Bath and quaint Castle Combe, Valentina’s Lost Orangery is set within 500 acres of private grounds including enchanted woodland, manicured gardens, a beautiful valley and lake, all bound by the walls of a crumbling castle. This unique luxury self-catering property sits on the terrace of a pool house looking out over the romantic gardens and lake beyond. A subtle rosy-lemon nuance greets you on arrival in the dramatic dining room, where a traditional banquet table and crystal chandeliers await the party amidst a jungle of evergreen palms, citrus plants and potted geraniums.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Two beguiling four poster bedroom suites carry the regal ambiance into the night. Both bedrooms boast en suite bathrooms complete with WCs and roll top bathtubs; one has an overhead shower whilst the other features a monsoon shower. In contrast to the theatrical living areas, the bedrooms and bathrooms retain an understated elegance yet still remain undeniably luxurious.
The utopian grounds were imagined by Julian and Isabel Bannerman, designers to the aristocracy, who have created an English country garden with a whimsicality like a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Crisp pruned topiary, fragrant roses and herbaceous planting are all enclosed within enchanted castle walls - watch out for the white rabbit! Not only do you have your own private terrace, the owners invite you to enjoy their entire estate. Enjoy a couples game of tennis followed by strawberries and cream and jugs of fruit-laden Pimm's late into the afternoon.
Step back 2000 years in time and visit the ancient Roman baths. Stylish and steeped in romance, Bath is the only British city to achieve World Heritage status and the only place where you can bathe in natural hot spa waters. Take a stroll through Victoria Park and The Royal Crescent, and revel in the traditional Palladian architecture. Enjoy a cross country hack and indulgent afternoon pampering in the country house and spa just a mile away, or opt to visit the quintessential village of Castle Combe a few miles further. For getaway escapes, simply stay within your own stately empire, roam the grounds, relax and absorb the beauty all around.
There is ample parking for several cars. This luxury property is well equipped with electric oven, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dryer. Gardeners tend to the grounds twice a week but will not cause disturbance and the owners live in the main house nearby.
