From moonlit speeches cocooned in a red apple orchard to barefoot dancing beneath timber beams, this country house venue promises a quintessentially romantic setting come rain or shine.
Introduction
Dating back to the 1640s, Scarlet Hall has stood witness to centuries of history and has even welcomed a prince through its timbered halls. Today, you can exchange vows in a civil or humanist ceremony onsite, immersing yourself in a fairytale setting. Whether planning an intimate elopement or a grand celebration, this country estate offers both sweeping grounds and enchanting interior spaces. For events with over 31 guests, a dedicated wedding planner is included and is available to provide their expertise from six weeks before the nuptials.
Inside
Spread between a manor and coach house, we like to think of Scarlet Hall as “the wedding estate”. Seat up to 100 guests in the rustic barn under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights and flower garlands, while recommended local caterers serve platters of slow-roasted lamb with charred asparagus and bartenders shake up gin martinis at the bar. After the final dance, deep inglenook fireplaces and elegant bedroom suites back at the manor beckon overnight guests to unwind, while a pool, sauna and games room promise a dose of R&R the next day.
Outside
Tucked in the heart of the rolling Cheshire countryside, Scarlet Hall brims with timeless romance at every turn. An English meadow and orchard create a sylvan backdrop for wedding photographs, while evergreen topiary sets the scene for moonlit games of hide and seek under the stars. For those dreaming of an al fresco celebration, a marquee can be hired at an additional charge on the five-acre lawn, offering an idyllic setting for sipping Champagne and dancing to live jazz, while children chase bubbles outside with older cousins.

- Bedrooms and bathroomsThe main house has six bedrooms, five of which are on the first floor (three double en suite; two large zip-and link en suite) and one on the ground level (with en suite shower room). There is also a separate ground floor WC. The adjacent coach house holds two double bedrooms and three zip-and-link bedrooms, two of which share a Jack and Jill shower room. Three further shower rooms, a WC and a family bathroom are spread among the coach house and pool house.

- PracticalitiesFor weddings over 31 guests, a wedding planner will be included to ensure the day runs smoothly (available six weeks prior to your wedding day). The property is licensed, so couples can have a civil or humanist ceremony on-site in the barn or gardens. It is also possible to have an idyllic off-site church ceremony in St Edith’s in Shocklach or St Mary’s in Tilston, followed by a celebration at the venue. Scarlet Hall welcomes wedding parties of up to 100 guests. However, there is flexibility to accommodate up to 120 guests, subject to prior approval from the property owner and at an additional cost of £100 per person beyond 100 guests. Likewise, if you would like to host pre/post-wedding events, prior permission will be required from the owner and additional fees will apply. The venue is booked on a dry-hire basis, and a brochure of recommended suppliers will be sent to you on enquiry; the venue prefers that guests utilise their highly recommended local caterers and bar service, and permission is needed for caterers not included on the supplier list. It is possible to use a marquee on the front lawn for an additional fee of £1,500. There is parking available for up to 50 cars; due to the rural location, taxis must be booked in advance. If arriving by air, helicopters are welcome to land on the grounds by prior arrangement. Music must be turned down by 11:00pm and end by 11:30pm with carriages at midnight on weekends, and turned down by 10.00pm and end by 10:30pm with carriages at 11pm during the week. Only overnight guests may access the property and pool house, which must both be locked on your wedding day; we request that guests remain in the wedding barn and dedicated outdoors spaces. Please be advised that the owners live next door and are happy to be contacted if needed. A three-night minimum stay is required. Please ensure that children and pets are supervised at all times due to the water hazards at the property.

Getting there
- On the Map This wedding property is located in the village of Shocklach, just 12 miles from Chester, 38 miles from Liverpool, 51 from Manchester and 65 from Birmingham.
- By Car Scarlet Hall is 30 minutes from Chester, a one hour and 20 minute drive to central Manchester or Liverpool and an hour and a half from central Birmingham.
- By Train The best and most direct station is Chester and Crewe, with regular train services to London and the rest of the country.
- By Air The nearest airports are Manchester and Liverpool John Lennon, an easy one hour drive. Birmingham airport is one hour and 45 minutes away. Helicopters are welcome to land on the grounds of Scarlet Hall by prior arrangement.

“The house has a lovely homely feel, it´s amazingly bright and sunny for a 17th century timber-framed building! Cleverly re-designed, it creates a feeling of space and flow. Wedding parties will enjoy views from all sides, all day, right through to the magnificent sunsets.”
Scarlet Hall was originally built circa 1640; it is a timber-framed building with close boarded timber panels which were used in this period as a sign of affluence! Over the generations, the house has been encased with brickwork, much of this completed in the early 19th century, which was a huge benefit as it preserved the 17th century frame of the building.
We were fortunate enough to purchase this gem in 2004. We were looking for a project to create a family home in the country to bring up our two children. So, when this came up for auction we jumped at the chance, probably not thinking too much about the enormity of the project!
Although this house has origins from the 17th century, it has many modern-day touches which provide a light, bright and very comfortable environment for families, celebration parties and of course, weddings.
As the inscription found in an old chimney says, "Ye Friends Meeting House" and that is what this house represents to us.

What a gorgeous setting! We are so pleased we chose Scarlet Hall as the venue for our wedding. It made it so special at every point. We arrived the day before our celebration ceremony and our friends and family helped us to decorate the barn area. We held our legal ceremony in the main house with just our immediate family we did this in the main hallway surrounded by flowers and it really was stunning. We really had the best week.

We were immediately wowed by Scarlet Hall and its rustic charm and how it is immaculately well kept. As a wedding venue, it has an all-season aesthetic that is truly hard to beat. We were incredibly impressed by the communication and information provided in the lead up to the wedding from the owners, which really helped put our minds at ease. The barn allows for every couple to create their own unique wedding and it was really warming to see how the owners engaged with that. We managed to create our dream wedding in the exact style that we were looking for and it fully exceeded our expectations.

Having waited for three years to get here because of the restrictions we were beyond excited to eventually get here. We stayed a full week so we could get in family and friends. The weather was glorious. We had the most spectacular time. I could not have thought of one thing that would have improved it. The memories of me spending quality time with our young ones will stay with me forever and brighten the darkest of days. We are so very happy to have had the opportunity. A return visit to Scarlet Hall and again, the most memorable stay. Previously we celebrated a birthday, on this occasion, we celebrated multiple birthdays plus a wedding! We had a traditional party with balloons, cake and games galore, along with pool parties and shows put on by the children (and the big kids!). We also enjoyed beautiful dining every single day. A family with ages ranging from six to 82, there´s nothing that isn´t catered for, no matter the season. We´ve had a tremendous week!

The house is a dream; every single guest was blown away. Every room is unique and has been completed to the most incredible standard. The bridal suite is straight out of a fairytale! The property had enough room for all of our guests to dine and relax together, whilst also having many intimate smaller spaces where guests could escape to. The pool is fantastic and what can I say about the barn?! The backdrop to our magical wedding, the space was used for our ceremony, breakfast and dancefloor. I can´t express how fantastic the whole experience was.
There are no words that could do justice to the time we have spent here at Scarlet Hall. The venue wowed each and every one of our guests. It is so stunning and luxurious, yet so homely and comfortable. The stay at this house alone would have been incredible enough, but we also got married here. Our intimate wedding was nothing short of magical. It surpassed all of our expectations. It was a day we will remember and cherish forever and we can´t wait to come back and commemorate it with a future stay!
