Weddings at The Lost Music Hall
Ipplepen, Totnes, Devon, UK
A bohemian country manor in the heart of south Devon, weddings at The Lost Music Hall are for modern romantics. Set within a secluded South Hams valley on the historic Great Ambrook estate, this luxury wedding venue sets the stage for Champagne-filled revelries and dancing until midnight in the underground cellar club.
Introduction
Here, there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all. Weddings at The Lost Music Hall promise a truly bespoke experience. Civil and humanist ceremonies may be held on site in the orchard, walled garden or the grand music room. Traditionalists can opt for a church ceremony in one of three nearby parishes, each less than ten minutes away, before returning for the reception. You’ll have access to The Lost Music Hall, which seats up to 100 guests, along with use of the communal grounds on the event day. Dine beneath festoon lights and flower-laden tables, bring in a live band or a silent disco, and make the evening entirely your own. Alternatively, opt for a marquee in the meadows, or hire the owner’s neighbouring property, The Lost Manor House, for additional space at an extra fee.
Inside
Enchantment trickles in through huge picture windows, across oak parquet floors, behind Doric columns, and under domed ceilings at The Lost Music Hall. Expect grand proportions, whimsical touches, and an atmosphere of Arts and Crafts creativity. As night falls, take the party downstairs to the underground cellar – a speakeasy-style space with a sound system, lighting rig and smoke machine. More than just a wedding venue, this is also a home for the weekend. Choose a three-day stay and gather your nearest and dearest for a wedding-eve reception, or choose to extend the magic with a full week’s mini-moon. Upstairs, spectacular valley views unfold from the upstairs balcony, while three generous bedrooms each feature two double beds, sleeping up to twelve guests.
Outside
Step outside the ochre façade laced in ivy, and find yourself surrounded by fragrant gardens, ancient trees, and views of the winding Ambrook River. After vows are shared and rings exchanged, toast on the Italianate terrace as the valley fills with the sound of folk music. The grounds bloom with colour and character – from orchards perfect for golden-hour strolls to an inviting azure swimming pool and hidden corners where guests can pause and take in the stillness. There’s also the option to hire a food van – think wood-fired pizzas and artisanal burgers, turning dinner into a festival-style feast that feels relaxed. With on-site parking for up to 65 cars, and the owners living just next door should you need them, your day can unfold with ease and quiet confidence.

From the owner
“We bought the property and moved here in 2019. We have since met many individuals who have connections to the estate, each sharing stories about the house and the families that have enjoyed it as their home. Arthur Graham’s historian and biographer talks fondly about the special atmosphere here, and it does indeed have a tranquil, magical ambience.”

There are endless enchanting spaces throughout the venue. The Lost Music Hall itself was a bold addition to The Lost Manor, made in the early 1900s by Arthur Graham. Designed by local architect T. H. Lyon, the building was originally an enormous single-height chapel-like structure with a vaulted ceiling, constructed in part to house an enormous organ that was specially made and shipped from New York.
Graham was a society bachelor who entertained extensively and there are many stories of the guests that enjoyed time here in the hidden valley. I can imagine the gatherings with guests spilling onto the grand Italianate terraces on a summer evening enjoying the view across the grounds with its ancient trees and tiny river. To host bespoke weddings here feels true to the bones of the building.
Holding up the tradition, we've hosted several music events since we’ve been here. Notably a benefit concert with some amazing folk musicians and a chamber music event as part of a festival organised by Ashburton Arts including a world-class string quartet.
There is a really magical quality here; there are so many myths and stories about the decadent events in the manor and music hall. It is such a wonderful place to come together with friends and family.

Two weeks after the event, we are still overjoyed by our summer wedding at The Lost Music Hall. The extraordinary venue and its rural setting enabled us to plan a wedding that took our guests on a journey through the Devon countryside, through an elegant mid-century Music Hall, to a characterful cellar for late night dancing.
Thank you one and all for your care, kindness and for sharing your incredible home with us. It is an environment that´s inspired warmth and joy amongst us all. We will treasure these memories. Its been the most magical weekend, the river, the pool, the meadows, the views and the fresh air! Its all been glorious, there´s no where we would have preferred to celebrate our special day. Your hospitality definitely made an amazing event even better.
There is something so special about The Lost Music Hall. I can’t explain how beautiful it is, not only for a get away but to host a wedding that our guests nor us will ever forget. The hosts are incredible and went so far above and beyond our expectations. I truly can’t think of enough nice words to say about them or their home.
