Surrender to the majesty of Whitsand Bay with a luxury self-catering break at Tempest. Once you have fallen asleep to the sound of the waves, soaked under twinkling star constellations in the hot tub and gazed out at the infinite views of sea and sky, you'll find it hard to believe there is anywhere else in the world. Let this luxury beach house in east Cornwall lure you under its spell...
Introduction
Tempest is a stunning cliffhanger and one of the largest beach house abodes on Tregonhawke Cliff in Whitsand Bay. Ideal for families or groups of friends, this heavenly retreat and its paradisiacal surrounds has something for everyone, whether you are big on adventures or enjoying a calmer pace of life. Offering unfettered access to sand and sea, the Rame Peninsula remains one of Cornwall's most unspoilt pockets. Enjoy fish and chips sat on the harbour wall of a nearby fishing village or throw sticks for your dog into glass-like waters; a summer holiday here will create memories by the bucketful.
Inside
Come inside and let your worries float away; the striking industrial interiors harness a palette of chalks and charcoals with playful pops of colour, while floor-to-ceiling windows draw the eye towards jaw-dropping panoramas. The open-plan living areas of this private beach house provide stylish space for complete relaxation; throw open the sliding doors and let the sea air work its magic whilst you cradle a coffee and sink into the sofa. For lazy mornings and early nights, both the spacious bedrooms at Tempest boast unbroken sea views reaching out towards the horizon. Snuggle into the squishy pillows and relax.
Outside
Wherever you choose to sit within the tiered gardens at Tempest, the call of the birds and the hypnotic ebb and flow of the tide will provide a soothing soundtrack to the day. Ease yourself awake with al fresco tea and toast and gather together your beach essentials. Lay out soft towels and poke a vintage parasol into the sand before letting the sun warm your skin under the shade of the umbrella. Later, after a day of beach fun, enjoy a barbecue on the deck with the vast blue ocean splayed out before you. Beautiful throughout the year, in wintertime, enjoy a dip in the hot tub and watch the wild crashing waves from your cliff top eyrie.

From the owner
“Every day is different at Tempest; the ever changing sea views never fail to stir a different emotion. I love to lay in the bath looking out over the ocean, particularly on a stormy night. My family most enjoy the spectacular sunsets whilst I love to watch the moonlight on the water.”

I first purchased Tempest in 1982 at the age of 22, when it was a simple and rustic beach chalet. I was the only inhabitant at the time, sleeping with my window wide open at night!
It has since seen many changes, from losing the roof in the 1989 storms when it had lots of tiny little rooms, to creating the upstairs to its present day open-planned glory. That's simplifying the story. In a nutshell, a partner, three sons and 33 years later, it's taken several different changes and renovations to make this what we feel a comfortable beach home.
When I came here at the age of 22 to "have a look", I sat still, listened to the waves and breathed. That was it! I've been hooked ever since. So beware, when you're staying at Tempest it is hard to do anything but relax. You are trapped by the Whitsand Bay spell.

Guest Testimonials
The perfect holiday home, we have particularly, enjoyed watching the surfers and the birds swooping and diving into the sea. Walking down to the beach and enjoying the beautiful views. One evening we spotted a cruise ship, MS Rotterdam making its way across the bay and out to sea. We discovered it had departed from Plymouth and was on its way to New York. The binoculars come in very handy to get a close-up view. The hot tub was used every evening, it was a luxury that enhanced our stay. Thank you, it has been a great relaxing holiday.
What a magical place! We have been in a lot of great places but yours is a very special one. Not only is the view absolutely stunning but the house itself is a real jewel and we have enjoyed every moment of it! We will return home with a lot of wonderful memories and maybe one day we will return to this unique place of yours!
Dreams do come true! Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful property with amazing views. We are happy to have made lots of family memories here!
As two couples who are lifelong friends and travelling companions, this holiday came at the perfect time after isolation over the last couple of years. This beautiful home provided us with everything we needed and more; the view simply took our breath away every time. The house is comfortable, warm and inviting and a special thank you for the fresh flowers everywhere. To top it all off we had glorious weather all week, which meant wonderful walks on the beach together. We just can´t wait to return!
We rarely return to places, but Tempest called us back and boy, we were delighted to be here for every reason. A wonderful week in the most superb surroundings. Thank you for the special little touches and simply all the magic in your home. Another dose of the best medicine by the sea. Heaven!
What an amazing few days we´ve had. We couldn´t have found a more perfect spot for our first holiday as a family. The dog and baby both had a wonderful time! The house is cosy and that view! Thank you for your hospitality, a truly wonderful stay. We even saw a pod of dolphins!
What an amazing trip! The whole family were thrilled as soon as we walked through the front door of Tempest. The walks on the beach and relaxing nights in the hot tub made this stay all the more enjoyable. We really didn´t want to leave, so thank you.
What a lovely place to stay! We really enjoyed walking on the beach and admiring the views. We very much hope to visit again, also, the hot tub was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing Tempest with us!
What a magical place to stay! Thank you for making our first holiday as a family of three as relaxing as it can be. The house is the perfect little escape for us and we have fallen in love with the view. After a challenging two years of lockdown, pregnancy and maternity leave, this little break was just what we needed. Especially watching shooting stars from the hot tub. We´re going home with wonderful memories, thank you!
We can only echo the comments of the guests that have all stayed before us. What a fabulous property, an absolute gem! We have had a wonderful few days exploring the area and just relaxing as much as possible. We will definitely be back!
We love Tempest! What a location for our honeymoon, which was a year late no thanks to COVID, but was the best medicine after a tough couple of years. We truly felt at home and absolutely do not want to leave, but guess it´s only fair to share this amazing place with someone else. Our dogs have also had the best time, often caught staring out to sea and enjoying the decking space in the sunshine. Whitsand Bay is a paradise and we hope to return very soon. Thank you for making the first few days of married life unforgettable!
Thanks for a wonderful weekend! It was absolutely idyllic. We couldn´t have asked for a better (would-have-been) honeymoon that was delayed by COVID restrictions. We loved all the thoughtful touches, and the hamper full of goodies was just what we needed. We could have looked out at this view forever and we feel lucky to have enjoyed it playing board games and enjoying a glass (or two) in the hot tub. We hope to visit again very soon!
We have loved every second here! We´ve been very lucky with amazing weather during our December stay. Such a beautiful beach house with amazing views and we´ve loved walking along the coastal paths taking in the sea air. It´s a very peaceful part of the world and Cornwall never disappoints in winter! Thank you so much for the welcome, the lovely hamper and a fantastic stay.
We´ve had an absolutely fantastic time at Tempest. The weather has thrown all sorts at us! When it´s sunny, the view is magical with breathtaking sunsets. During stormy times, it´s equally as amazing with some very angry skies! The house itself is a hidden gem and makes the perfect retreat for rest and relaxation. The added touches around the house, such as flowers everywhere you look, make it that extra bit special. We thoroughly loved it!
Tempest and its location are wonderfully dramatic. From the constantly changing coastline, to the wind that sang us to sleep every night, to the blazing sunsets in the west. In the midst of this drama, Tempest is a wonderful tranquil home beautifully decorated with countless touches of creativity, imagination and fresh themes to enjoy in every room; just so magical. Long walks along the coast path, watching the waves on the beach at low tide and the lovely hot tub have all made for a wonderful stay. Thank you for an incredible experience.
What a truly incredible piece of heaven! We loved absolutely everything at Tempest. It´s so clean, organised and exactly what we needed! We will definitely be back for another stay!
Thank you so much for allowing us to borrow this amazing place, it was the best place to break out of lockdown and introduce us to staying somewhere that wasn´t home. We loved the views, the treats, the team, the walks, the sunshine, the sound of the waves and the hot tub as the sun went down. Thank you again for all your help! We hope to visit again - and soon.
Thank you so much for an amazing stay in your stunning property. We had a fantastic weekend with our family who have been twice before already, and I am sure we´ll be back again too!
Wow! What an absolutely stunning house and the most amazing views. Just beautiful! The owner has been a star looking after us through the worst storm they´ve had in years! Can´t wait to come back again, and fingers crossed for the weather!
