self-catering holiday cottage, Helford River

Introduction

Far from the cries and noise of inner city living, this luxury home nestled in the arms of nature is the perfect escape for couples and families longing for tranquillity. Just a short drive from the idyllic Helford River to the east and the rugged Lizard Peninsula to the south, this self-catering home is wonderfully placed for both gentle, shaded days with toes dipped in the burbling river and heart-thumping hikes along the South West Coast Path.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

There are two sunny bedrooms at Tangle Belle; throw open the double doors in the king-size bedroom and enjoy the sound of the woodland as dappled sunlight streams in through the canopy of trees above. The bright twin bedroom flaunts wooden floorboards and wood clad walls, and shares the Jack-and-Jill family bathroom with the king-size bedroom.

Outside

The cottage’s private gardens offer enough beauty and serenity to quell the busy mind, and with a sunny decking and riverside seating, you’d be forgiven for not venturing beyond the borders of the grounds. If one does leave, a wealth of Cornish riches await just a hop, skip and a jump from Tangle Belle; swim in the turquoise waters of paradisiacal Kynance Cove, visit sub-tropical gardens thriving in the balmy south Cornwall climate and put-put along the quiet waters of the Helford River with not a care in the world other than where to stop for lunch.

For Relaxation

Sit with feet swinging just above the river on the stone clapper bridge which leads to the cottage, book in one hand and steaming cup of tea in the other, and laze the day away to the sound of birds chattering overhead. By night, cook a fish supper fresh from the owner’s boat and watch the stars come to life against midnight skies.

Practicalities

There is off-road parking for two cars. The approach to the property is a rural lane and can prove difficult for low-slung cars; when the river runs high it may not be possible to drive through the ford to park next to the property, but alternative parking is available. There is an electric Aga, dishwasher, washer and dryer.

Our Take

Property Curator Jess says

The welcoming open-plan interiors and high ceilings create a great sense of space at Tangle Belle; I adored the stylish rusticity of the cottage and loved the fact that the owners even offered us the freshest catch of the day from their fishing boat.
