Introduction

Dorset’s River Bride and undulating valleys provide a charming backdrop for this luxury cottage-style farmhouse near Hive Beach and Burton Bradstock. Standing proud amidst neat lawns and wildflower meadows, this 18th century home is at the centre of British heritage. Wander over ancient lands once home to dinosaurs and native tribes defending their hillforts from invading Romans (regrettably, not at the same time), then find a bench to thumb one of Thomas Hardy's masterworks, penned nearby.

Inside

Filled with floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed wood, this bright home in rural Dorset spans over three traditionally furnished floors. Home to a gorgeous open-plan kitchen-diner, tranquil sitting room and snug, there is abundant space for all members of the family to come together or enjoy some downtime spread between light-filled living spaces. Later, seven bedrooms await, including the master suite with its super king-size bed, dressing room, en suite shower room and French doors.

Outside

Enjoy an afternoon tipple on the terrace as children run riot on the extensive lawn, or relax by the river’s edge, spotting dragonflies and heron go about their day. When the lure of the sea gets too much, take a day trip to the caramel-coloured sands of the Jurassic coast, just 15 minutes away by car, teasing with glimpses of the glittering water as you wind through Dorset's country lanes. On return, amble barefoot through the orchard, dangle feet over the jetty or gather on the terrace for a group toast before supper.

From the owner

“Stylish and comfortable, Kingfisher Farm is an architect-designed house with an open and airy feel, with its long windows filling it with light and vast views across the surrounding farmland and hills. Our sunsets are often spectacular, best enjoyed with a glass of wine in the garden!”

From the owner

With open views across the countryside, Kingfisher Farm is surrounded by sheep and dairy farms. Our neighbours also keep horses as well as geese, chickens, turkeys, bantams and ducks – you can buy a variety of eggs from their gate. We have a small flock of Gotland sheep in the paddock which are owned and cared for by their shepherdess, Pauline, and her two sheepdogs.

Lawns lead from the house to the shallow River Bride which rises several miles upstream at Bridehead in the picturesque village of Little Bredy. We have built a small jetty beside the river for those who enjoy paddling whilst garden seats beneath the willows offer a quiet place to read or just to watch the river flow by. Sometimes small trout will pass or you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the kingfisher flitting amongst the reeds.

Our gardens and riverbanks teem with birdlife including egret, wrens, swallows, finches, doves, herons, wild duck, and robins – as well as our neighbours’ magnificent peacocks. At night the gardens herald magic, moonlight and perhaps a romantic moment beneath distant stars.

Kingfisher Farm is beautiful, bright, light and spotlessly clean. In a great location, not too far from beaches, restaurants and lovely walks. The rooms are beautifully furnished and really comfortable. The kitchen is a great size and very well equipped. Kingfisher Farm really exceeded our expectations and helped to make the weekend really special. The property is absolutely stunning and the facilities are second to none. We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable weekend away with friends or family.

We have been hiring houses for many years but this one is the best. The house and gardens are superb, from the build quality and user-friendly design, beautiful furnishings and artworks and the special novelty of “Otto” who was the children’s favourite. The kitchen is outstanding for multiple-age usage and the crockery, cutlery and glassware first class. The room layout and bathing facilities are perfect and enhanced by the excellent views of the lovely unspoilt countryside.

Thank you for your welcoming hospitality. The care you have obviously taken in choosing the lovely local food provided for the welcome hamper, along with the gorgeous flowers and the comfortably elegant way you have furnished the house instantly give pleasure. We all, from five to eighty years of age, enjoyed every moment at Kingfisher Farm. Thank you.

We really enjoyed our time at Kingfisher Farm. The house is so comfortable and has such a wonderful feel to it. It worked so well for our family of 10 and the accommodation is spacious and bright. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, with all the equipment you could possibly need plus some lovely touches. We were warmly greeted by the owners, who couldn´t have been more helpful. Our children enjoyed being in the country and seeing Heidi the horse and Zorro the dog! We visited many local areas and ate in some lovely gastro pubs. We would definitely book again!
