Book

Introduction

Ensconced in nature at the end of a winding Cornish country lane, despite its sharp architectural design, The Hide is immersed in its rural domain. From throwing open the bi-fold doors for a hot tub dip on a summer's morning to sitting in front of the roaring fire of a winter’s eve, The Hide is as perfect a haven for solo escapes as it is for couples seeking a modern luxury cottage hideaway less ordinary. Those looking to embrace the 'retreat' vibe can start the day with yoga on the deck (there are mats and blocks provided), or rise with the sun for a sea swim at nearby Perranporth beach.

Inside

With a clean and minimalist aesthetic, every design detail at The Hide has been carefully considered. From the peephole windows - affording a forested dappled light effect, to the nest lights that create a similar after-dark impression, the overall look is understated and uncluttered. A haven for mind and soul, the vast windows, which overhang the cottage garden create an authentic back-to-nature essence that frames the entire scheme. There's a raw appeal to this concrete-led hideaway, which continues through the bedroom and en suite where a deep-sinking bath takes centre stage.

Outside

The covered deck leading from the kitchen features an outdoor dining area which is perfect for cooking-up a wild foraged feast. There’s also a raised deck with hot tub and far-reaching valley views, a green lawn for sunshine reclining and a large corner seating area complete with fire pit. If you choose to simply 'hide' out during your stay, then exploration is not mandatory, but if you do choose to roam, you are within 10-minutes of Cornwall's north coast beaches - the best being Perranporth and Holywell Bay, where sand dunes and surf await.

From the owner

“Being involved in every element of the design and build of The Hide was a truly immersive experience. The tucked away location and unique design make The Hide the perfect modern rustic cottage getaway.”

From the owner

When I first saw the site in the spring of 2015, it was something quite magical. I’ve always been amazed and inspired by unique architectural builds using basic materials such as wood, concrete and glass. I thought about creating something that would present a striking juxtaposition to the Cornish countryside setting, but at the same time blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

From initial sketch designs working with a bird hide concept, we decided wooden shingle would comprise much of the exterior, which would age in silvery hues over time. Along with this we added peephole windows to create a dappled light effect in the living space, like sunlight through trees.

The angled windows, which ended up adding complexity to the build, so much so they almost didn't make the final edit, have become one of my favourite features, particularly the window behind the top of the bed as you wake up feeling completely immersed in nature.

My aim for The Hide was for it to be a sanctuary from city life. I created an outdoor dining area with a fire pit, then I also added a hot tub along with some yoga mats so that guests could use this as a real ‘well-being’ retreat.

We absolutely adored The Hide! It was the most glorious accommodation set in a fabulous position near the North Cornish shore. It was warm and cosy and we loved features like the viewing window and beautiful lighting. Unique Homestays are a class above any other holiday properties we stay in, they are always a luxurious treat. Many thanks for a most memorable and magical time.

I loved the modern minimalist style feeling warm but out in nature at the same time, the very comfortable furnishings, the outdoor facilities and the amazing hidden location. Stunning. It was also great my dog could come. I really enjoyed cooking in the gorgeous kitchen and my husband loved the hot tub (and the large seating area inside - he’s tall so can struggle when seating is small).

Just to say we had an amazing time, in a fantastic property, and really enjoyed the whole thing. It really did exceed expectations. The property was beautifully designed and well appointed and in a really lovely, private setting. Really wish we could have stayed longer, but unfortunately, didn´t have the time.

The house was stunning and we loved its modern design and feel. It was close to Perranporth which was great for the dogs. Thank you for such a welcoming and relaxing stay!

In a world that seems to have gone slightly crazy, The Hide was an amazing find and just what we needed. We love it; beautiful, contemporary and stylish. Thank you for creating such an amazing space and for allowing others to enjoy it.

The Hide is a purely magical place to stay; total luxury, a hidden gem surrounded by beautiful countryside and silence, absolute heaven on earth and the hot tub was the icing on the cake! Magical perfection!

An absolutely stunning place! The design and extra special touches throughout are exquisite. The views from the "wow window" and champagne in the hot tub; what more could we ask for this week? We got engaged in this special place so we´ll always have such fabulous memories of our week at The Hide. We cannot wait to come back! Thank you for this perfect and unique stay.

We have had a wonderful stay at The Hide, it is one of the best holiday rental’s we’ve ever stayed in. The design and quality of the build is all so perfect. The property’s inland location is beautiful and within easy reach of great places for day trips. Thank you very much, we will highly recommend this to all of our family and friends!

What a fantastic place! The Hide has been the perfect stay to celebrate my 30th birthday. There are so many beautiful beaches and towns nearby to visit, along with some lovely woodland walks inland too. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed some wonderful sunsets in the hot tub! The architectural design of The Hide is amazing and we loved the window den, which was lovely with the sun coming in or with the fire blazing at night. The waterfall shower is also incredible. We have had an amazing week which has gone too quickly.

What an incredible hideaway you have created! We have enjoyed sunshine on the window seat, have drank champagne in the hot tub, and have truly switched off. The Hide has been the perfect place to spend a birthday, and to celebrate a surprise engagement! We will be back!
