Luxury self-catering accommodation in Crantock
Just south of Newquay on Cornwall's golden north coast, this charming coastal village has rural beauty, fabulous sands and stunning cliff walks.
Surfers, families with buckets and spades, and couples seeking solace on the sands all unload the boot at Crantock car park and head for the rolling waves; this is surf-mecca, just south of Newquay's famed Fistral Beach, and the swells crashing in and out of Crantock Bay do the area justice. Take the little ones for a paddle in the shallows then settle in the dunes for a picnic with an unspoilt view of the ocean's ebb and flow; there's also a cafe nearby if seating is preferred.
The River Gannel’s salt marshes are home to an abundance of wildlife and plants; look out for sightings of little egrets as well as trout, eels and bullhead. A walk along the bank gives historians a glimpse of old boatyards and moorings; take the circular route from Crantock Beach and back around again, passing through fields, woods, a holy well, a couple of country pubs and child-favourite Trenance Gardens, with its playgrounds, parks and picturesque boating lake.
