Luxury cottages in Mousehole
A tangle of historic fishermen’s dwellings, winding alleyways, and a harbour dotted with painted boats – Mousehole is a classic Cornish idyll. Although it may brim with old-world charm, this village also hums with a vibrant creative energy, making it a characterful setting for a stay in one of our luxury seaside cottages.
On Cornwall’s south coast, in the picturesque village of Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel), fishing boats ply the same waters their forebears have for generations. A crescent of stone cottages hugs the harbour, their windows looking out to sea, sheltered by a stout wall that bears the full force of winter waves. Down its crooked lanes and alleys, independent art galleries, craft shops and storied pubs invite gentle wandering. The pace is unhurried, the atmosphere reflective – ideal for slow mornings by the fire, fresh pastries from the bakery and windswept walks.
Despite its modest size, Mousehole has much to its name and has long drawn artists, writers and discerning travellers. The poet Dylan Thomas described it as ‘the loveliest village in England’, and most agree. It’s famed for its ‘Stargazy' pilchard pie (heads and tails poking out of the crust), classic children’s tale The Mousehole Cat, and a dazzling Christmas lights display, in which the entire harbour is illuminated. Our collection of cottages in Mousehole includes an architect-designed cabin with a wood-fired tub and a former fish store turned family home overlooking the harbour.
