Radiating pure rustic romance, this fairytale self-catering Cornwall cottage, settled equidistant between Mylor and Devoran, is the perfect refuge for both earth mothers and nature lovers. Self-catering fairytale cottage in Ponsanooth near Mylor

Here is a Cornwall home where the old and crooked are fervidly celebrated; where knotted wood and reclaimed materials reign, where water splashes from copper taps into raw-stone sinks and pure, true love has been poured into every nook and stained glass window. Soft throws, trailing lace and botanical prints decorate this self-catering cottage in Ponsanooth near Mylor, where perfect imperfections waltz to the beat of the neighbouring nature reserve. Natural and organic in its entirety, bohemian souls will feel perfectly at ease beneath The Redes’ nest-like thatch.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

With its white walls, large wood-clad copper bath and indoor waterfall, The Redes' ground floor bathroom is a peaceful retreat to spend a rejuvenating hour or two. Up the wooden stairs to the bedroom, the king-size bed lies beneath the watchful eye of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. Next door is the dressing room, which can double as a single bedroom for a child (on prior request only), and a separate WC.

Secluded and sheltered, The Redes' garden encourages al fresco living throughout each of Cornwall’s four seasons. Floral deck chairs offer a comfortable place to worship the sun, while the rocking outdoor bed for two allows couples to snooze the afternoon away under the pergola as rain patters overhead. Wander up the hill into the wilds of the Kennall Vale, an abandoned gunpowder works reclaimed by nature hidden between tangled trees and climbing ivy, before returning home to spend a night under the stars in the garden hot tub.

For Relaxation

After a day spent exploring the Vale, wandering the cobbled streets and boutiques of nearby Falmouth or an afternoon lounging on the beach, a calm and idyllic haven awaits at The Redes. Squirrel away in the craft corner and paint memories of Cornish adventures, or, while dinner slowly broils in the kitchen, wrap up in each other on the soft leather Chesterfield sofa with a bottle of rich red wine while the crackling sound of the woodburner mingles with oldies trinkling from the record player.

There is off-road parking for one car at The Redes. The kitchen has a fridge-freezer, gas cooker, microwave and dishwasher. The garden is fully enclosed and safe for dogs to wander without supervision. Please note, due to the charming character of the house, there are some low ceilings and beams to be mindful of.

Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around Ponsanooth, Cornwall to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

Explore Kennall Vale There is something rather humbling about wandering through places where Mother Nature has begun to claim back what is rightfully hers, and Kennall Vale, just one hundred metres up the road, is no exception. Once a busy gunpowder factory, now a densely wooded valley, wander the river banks and explore the granite remnants which serve to make this already beautiful nature reserve a dramatic place indeed.

Tea for Two Visit Tregothnan Estate – England's first tea plantation - for a private tour of the largest historic garden in Cornwall. The private gardens offer a wealth of experiences, from learning to grow tea to floristry and bee keeping workshops, along with the annual charity open day, when doors are flung open to the public for a small fee, to wander the gardens (but be sure to get tickets in advance!).

Green Fingers Garden lovers and walking enthusiasts will be in their element in the areas surrounding Ponsanooth and The Redes. National Trust garden, Glendurgan, is famous for a cherry laurel maze and walkway which leads down to the quaint hamlet of Durgan on the River Helford, while Trebah not only has 25 acres of tropical ravine garden but its own beach and an amphitheatre hosting theatre and music throughout the summer.

A stay in Cornwall would not be complete without a freshly caught fish supper and, with Mylor Fisheries just a short jaunt away, there's no excuse not fire up the barbecue and indulge in some fine local seafood. For artisan bread, a selection of cheeses and homemade chutney, stroll down the lane to the local village shop and indulge in the delicious produce on offer.

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

Just around the corner from The Redes are two exceptional Cornish gastro pubs, both excelling in food, service and location. The Pandora Inn, on the water's edge by the Carrick Roads, is the perfect spot for whiling away sunny afternoons, snacking on homemade cakes and sipping an ice-cold G&T. Alternatively, wander down the lane to The Stag Hunt Inn for traditional pub food with an Asian twist before ambling back to the cottage for afternoon naps in the garden.
