Mackerel Skies combines the charm of a 200 year old Cornish cottage with the coolness of a place down under. Set in Rose near Perranporth in Cornwall, with the huge golden beaches of Holywell Bay, Crantock and Perran Sands within easy reach as well as opportunities for surfing, yoga and gourmet dining, this luxury self-catering holiday cottage provides a rejuvenating escape for the whole family.
A luxury self-catering cottage with it all, Mackerel Skies is the type of holiday home you will want to pen in the diary year after year. After chasing their own wanderlust, the owners brought their love for New Zealand back home with them to Cornwall, creating a welcoming abode with beachy interiors and plenty of space for al fresco fun. Idyllically located in Rose near Perranporth, the area boasts some of the best beaches in the UK. From surf escapes to yoga breaks, from family groups to girly weekends, Mackerel Skies is a perfect base for anyone who loves the Cornish life.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Downstairs comprises a garden dining room, luxurious shower room and a sweeping open plan kitchen-living area, where two log fires provide ultimate country-luxe cosiness. Upstairs sits the stylish twin, with white stone walls and super soft bedding, and the romantic boutique-style master suite which flaunts a king-size bed and open bathroom featuring a large egg-shaped bath and pebbled flooring underfoot.
As well as the coastpath being just a few miles away, Penhale Sands (a designated SSSI) runs from Crantock through Holywell Bay to Perranporth; this exceptional local marvel and Poldark backdrop was in fact also the source of the village’s namesake (Ros meaning dunes in Cornish). With giant sand dunes, caves and rock pools to explore – it’s no wonder this golden stretch of coast is such a honeypot for families. After a long day playing in the surf, catch the little ferryboat across The Gannel and grab fresh lobster from The Fern Pit café to barbecue on the beach– the perfect complement to a grand Cornish sunset.
Rain or shine, relaxation and rejuvenation are two things you can be sure of here at Mackerel Skies. Active souls will love morning jogs along the beach, private tuition with the expert local surf schools and yoga at the purpose-built studio down the road. The owners have left a selection their favourite books and surf movie classics, perfect for chilled evenings by the log burner. Oodles of living space means there is a quiet spot for everyone, and the garden hot tub is the best place to congregate for a celebratory bottle of bubbly, or two!
There is parking outside on the quiet country lane for two cars. The property is well-equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, fridge freeze, electric hob and wine cooler.
