Gypsea Rocks nestles between the soaring cliffs of a hidden valley in north Cornwall. Just 500 metres from the beautiful Trebarwith Strand beach, this luxury self-catering cottage is a true seaside haven. From the rustic white-washed interiors to the dreamy sea views through the sweet cottage windows, Gypsea Rocks oozes natural coastal charm.
A rugged setting steeped in romance, lore, charm and history makes a dramatic backdrop for this unique coastal retreat in north Cornwall. Originally built as a toll house for the quarrying of slate and sand from the beach at end of the lane, Gypsea Rocks stood untouched for 50 years before its tender transformation into the luxury self-catering cottage it is today. With Trebarwith Strand's golden sand beach as your playground, seaside family holidays and romantic escapes will have never been so fun: frolicking in the waves, drawing love hearts in the sand and running back to the cottage through the summer rain to dry off by the fire and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
With three bedrooms on the first floor, Gypsea Rocks is available for up to four guests (plus one child on request), meaning there's plenty of space for all to unfurl. The light-filled master bedroom boasts a king-size bed and looks out towards the ocean, whilst there's a cosy vibe to second double bedroom, complete with garden view and ditsy print quilt thrown over the double bed. The first floor bathroom includes a bath with shower attachment, WC and basin. There is an additional shower room and WC on the ground floor.
Trebarwith Strand and its tidal beach have long been loved by local families and surfers, but recent years have also seen the quaint Cornish village become popular with location scouts and celebrities; it's unspoilt, hidden-gem appeal making it the perfect refuge for relaxation. When you've exhausted yourselves exploring rockpools and sea caves down on the beach, retreat back to the cottage's private garden. With twinkling fairy lights and glimpses of the roaring ocean from the deck, it's the perfect place to enjoy barbecue feasts under a fading pink sky.
Long summer days on the beach are sure to see guests fall head over heels for Trebarwith Strand. This iconic Cornish cove has a long stretch of golden sand extending a mile at low tide, but when the tide pushes in it leaves only the warm, black rocks for sunbathing. Watch the surfers put on a show from the terrace of The Strand Cafe with a spread of crab sandwiches and fresh fruit smoothies, or head to the pub on the cliff for a Cornish cider at sunset. Gypsea Rocks is all about good old-fashioned family fun, and winters are best spent gathered around the crackling fire for board games and homemade hot chocolate.
There is private parking for two cars. The kitchen includes an Aga, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, toaster, washing machine and dryer.

Property Owner Sylvie says
My favourite times include being first on the beach in the early mornings, sundowners on the deck looking out to Gull Rock with the evening sun on my face, watching the sunset over the sea and playing board games round the kitchen table.

FOOD AND DRINK
Create an indulgent feast in the farmhouse-style kitchen using the very best of Cornish fodder. Tintagel has all the essentials, but for fresh fish visit Dennis Knight and Fresh From The Sea in Port Issac (of Doc Martin fame). There's plenty of excellent fresh produce nearby. Boscastle Farm Shop, a couple of villages along the coastal road, is the perfect place to pick up some locally-grown produce as well as home-made goodies, along with Hilltop Farm Shop near Camelford.
If you'd rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).
Foodies will be well-placed in Trebarwith Strand, with a selection of superb eateries within walking distance. The Mill is a cosy Cornish inn just 800 metres up the lane, serving brilliant seafood and steaks. The closest watering hole, The Port William, is also a good choice, famed for its cliff-side position overlooking the Atlantic swell.
