Nestled in a rural Cornish hamlet, just ten minutes from the beaches of Watergate bay and Mawgan Porth, The Wool Shed oozes authentic rough-lux charm. There’s an industrial flavour to the interiors, where wood, concrete and steel sit alongside authentic agricultural finds. As perfect a cosy winter abode as a summertime retreat; a central woodburner, sheepskins and rustic linens combine with Antipodean-inspired living, with a wall of sliding glass barn doors embracing the indoor-outdoor vibe.The Wool Shed is as perfect a base for exploring the North Cornish coast as it is for a getting-away-from-it-all self-catering escape with a focus on rest and relaxation. 

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

With patio doors that lead directly onto the deck, there’s a garden-room feel to the light-filled twin bedroom, where wrought-iron beds, crumpled linens, reclaimed furniture and vintage artwork combine. In the adjacent wet room – where there’s a monsoon rain shower big enough for two – there’s a pared-back minimalist feel. Upstairs, the master bedroom exudes stay-in-bed appeal; with a private deck providing the ideal spot for a morning coffee. You’re assured of an indulgent soak in the master en suite; complete with double-ended bath, vintage wagon wheel, twin sinks and farmyard-inspired accessories.

Outside

Encircled by a hedge of red robin and completely private, a living wall and vintage trugs combine in the tranquil garden space. Clever lighting creates an after-dark ambience perfect for summer’s eve gatherings, whether you’re enjoying a couple’s retreat or holidaying as a family. With country walks from your doorstep – there’s a beautiful woodland to explore just a couple of miles from the barn - whether you want the little ones to run free Swallows and Amazons style, make the most of the tranquillity amidst style-led surrounds, or discover dog-friendly beaches and eateries close by, The Wool Shed is an inspiring space for a creative break.

Ensconced in the Cornish countryside, the setting of The Wool Shed is truly idyllic. There is off-road parking for two cars. The kitchen is well equipped with electric range cooker, dishwasher, microwave, and combined washing machine and dryer, fridge and freezer. The enclosed garden is a safe haven for young children and dogs alike.

Or for those looking for a real foodie experience, we can arrange anything from wild food escapes to fish filleting masterclasses at the property.

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you (on prior request and subject to an additional cost). 

Eating Out

Tucked down a country lane at Mawgan Porth, Retorrick Mill might be unassuming on approach, but the rustic decor exudes an authentic cabin-feel while the food truly embraces local, seasonal produce, from hand-crafted pizzas to seafood. A little further afield, The Hidden Hut - tucked along the coast path near Portscatho and St Mawes is worth a visit, especially on their Feast Nights, which run from March to September. The setting, ambiance and delicious dishes combine for a truly unique evening. For a traditional, rustic pub with great food, head to the St Kew Inn.
