Islander is a paradise for pure escapism, idyllically positioned on the edge of Freathy cliff. The very first beach cliff top cabin on arrival at Whitsand Bay, this showstopper certainly sets the standard for unique breaks in Cornwall’s spellbinding ‘forgotten corner’. Whatever the weather, Islander's beachside location, bubbling hot tub and Bahamas-inspired interiors provide a luxury self-catering homestay to rival those in the tropics.
Having welcomed a colourful array of guests through its salt-kissed doors for nearly 100 years, Islander is a true seaside sanctuary, originally built as a refuge for evacuees during the Second World War. Following a vibrant renovation, this luxury self-catering retreat now brings tropical island style to Whitsand Bay in Cornwall. Perfect for those who want that faraway feeling, Islander flaunts an exotic vibe with a seventies flair, using themed art pieces including a framed vintage Hawaiian shirt. Throw in a prime clifftop location, hot tub on the deck and huge sweep of golden beach below... and you'll be in Pura Vida paradise!
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Equally as perfect for families as honeymooners, this seaside haven has a master and additional bedroom should couples wish to bring friends or children. The double bedroom is a sea dream, with its king-size bed set in front of French windows inviting guests to pull open the curtains and let the ocean be a stage for dramatic swells and sometimes pods of leaping dolphins. The bunk room has a cool, cabin vibe with the addition of a Smart TV and Netflix, great for those cosy, stormy nights in. There is also a luxury shower room.
A beach hut holiday hot spot for years, Whitsand Bay has lost none of its vibrancy following a recent revival which has seen it become quite the seaside destination for the A-listers (Islander in particular!). Whilst the three mile sweep of sandy beach below is certainly spectacular, south east Cornwall's real treasures lie in its secret beaches including Polhawn Cove, Finnygook and Sharrow Beach. Islander is one of the most private beach huts on Freathy cliff, boasting a wraparound deck, lawn and crowning hot tub. So if you prefer sand on the beach than between your toes, Islander's clifftop position is the perfect way to enjoy the seaside.
With the tropical-themed interior and ocean backdrop, you’ll be humming to the tune of Mungo Jerry’s ‘In The Summertime’ before you’ve even had the chance to mix a cocktail. For a genteel day out, head to Antony House and Gardens which were famously used by Tim Burton as a film location for Alice in Wonderland. Or visit the utopian gardens of the Port Elliot estate where, if you like garden parties, their summer literary festival is not to be missed. After exploring Cornwall's enchanted south east corner, finish the day on a high with a dip in the hot tub as you watch the sun melt into the sea and turn the sky crimson. Islander does beach life at its very best - a haven for fun and relaxation.
Guests can drop luggage outside, the carpark is an easy three minute walk away. This luxury beach hut is well-equipped with a fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and Bosh oven.

FOOD AND DRINK
The open plan kitchen-diner looks out over the ocean, which makes cooking a dream. There's no place like Cornwall when it comes to clean seas, fertile land and passionate farmers, resulting in some of the freshest produce you'll find anywhere in the UK. Whether cooking up the catch of the day on the barbecue or enjoying an indoor feast with the patter of rain on the window, the dramatic backdrop will set the scene for unforgettable meal times.
If you'd rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your partner (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).
The View is exactly that; a cliff top restaurant serving up creative seafood with a prime position overlooking Whitsand Bay; it comes highly recommended by The Times, who listed it in their Top 30 Sexy places to Eat. After an afternoon's walk across the beach you can't beat a hot paper parcel of Posh Nosh's fish and chips.
