Our Take

Property Owner Gary says

Set in an area of acclaimed Dark Skies, The Pomegranate Tree is the perfect spot for stargazing. We just love to spend those long summer nights eating and drinking in the garden, watching the darkness envelop the trees and sparkling stars light up the heavens. It´s unlike anywhere we´ve ever been!

Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around West Anstey, Devon to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

Explore Exmoor Much less popular than nearby Dartmoor, but no less beautiful, Exmoor National Park has a wealth of world-class views over every hill and around every corner. Soaring cliffs which pierce the sky and plummet to crashing waves, secret wild swimming spots with only the dragonflies for company and hike upon hike through ancient woodlands and along burbling river banks make this one of England's best-kept secrets.

Gin Tasting Just five miles from the property lies the Exmoor Distillery, who share their love for premium, small-batch gin through hand-picked botanicals find in the surrounding landscape. Pop by the distillery after a day hiking the hills and pick up a bottle to be sipped as the sun goes down behind the hills at The Pomegranate Tree.

Dunster Castle With views over the Bristol Channel, the Quantock Hills and Exmoor, Dunster Castle is Norman dwelling which was turned into a lavish home in the 19th century. Perched on a wooded hill and surrounded by sub-tropical gardens, this National Trust castle on the edge of the town of Dunster is well worth the drive across the moors!

Go to Market Just 10 miles from The Pomegranate Tree sits the pretty town of South Molton, known to most as the Gateway to Exmoor, South Molton is the last remaining market town in North Devon and holds the only weekly markets in the area. From 8am - 1pm every Thursday and Saturday, the town's Pannier Market comes to life with artisan crafts, antiques, homemade cakes and so much more.

When it comes to fresh produce and organic meat, guests are spoilt for choice with farm shops, butchers and markets all just a short distance from The Pomegranate Tree. For joints of meat perfect for a Sunday feast or barbecue beneath the stars, speak to Charlotte the housekeeper, who's husband keeps both sheep and cows at Churchtown Farm, just round the corner!

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

There are certainly no shortage of quintessential thatched eateries close to the cottage, but the best by far has to be The Masons Arms, just five miles away. Holders of one Michelin Star and serving only the finest ingredients possible, this 13th century inn is the place to go for any special occasion. For a more casual affair, it has to be Hinam Farm Tea Room, where the best cream tea in the land can be found.
