Luxury farm stay in Ledbury, Herefordshire

The Hop Store offers a luxury self-catering farm stay near Ledbury in Herefordshire, where halcyon memories are re-awakened and innocent childhood pleasures rediscovered; Herby and Teddy the donkeys will likely be your firm friends by the time your perfect family holiday draws to a close. The sheep-dotted pastures and rolling green of the nearby Malvern Hills offer exploration opportunities a-plenty, whilst sumptuous fabrics and stylish flourishes throughout ensure that relaxation is top of the agenda. The property's topsy-turvy layout means that sitting alongside the crackling woodburner on the first floor gazing out across to the Malverns will be a special lasting memory of this serene little corner of rural paradise.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Both ground floor bedrooms are furnished with fine linens and cloud-soft pillows to promise a blissful night's sleep. The king-size master bedroom benefits from a wash basin and views across the courtyard, whilst the other double room has a zip-and-link bed which can also be arranged as a twin bedroom on prior request. There is a ground floor family bathroom with roll top bath and hand-held shower, as well as a separate wet room with walk-in shower.

The seasons are lived in high definition here at The Hop Store and each brings with it a very special something. Spring is synonymous with awakening and is when lambing season begins, the bluebells bloom, and the hop farm tentatively springs to life. September is a hive of activity when the hop harvest starts in earnest and hop pickers gather to collect the season's pickings for kilning in the unique onsite oast house. Apple juice lovers will relish the autumnal harvest when the juiciest fruits are plucked from the orchard and transformed into homemade award-winning apple juice (which can be bought from the small farm shop behind the garden room).

For Relaxation

Sit out in the front courtyard with a glass of sparkling cider in hand and watch the children play on the swing under the tree as the last of the day's sun sets beyond the woods. The stylish garden room across the courtyard started life as a mangelwurzel store, but is now a blissful place to unwind with a good book whatever the weather.

There is parking for up to four cars on the private courtyard/driveway to the front of the property. The Hop Store is well-equipped with gas hob, electric oven, microwave and washing machine.

Our Take

Property Owner Lesley says

Escape to the country and discover the delights of rural Herefordshire. People say the pace of life is slower here, even though there is so much to see and do. We feel very privileged to be the custodians of this small family farm and are looking forward to welcoming you here to share it with us.

Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around , Herefordshire to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

Don the Walking Boots Poppy's Walk (which takes its namesake from the owner's beloved black lab) is a marked trail around the farm perfect for all ages; just follow the footprints! Why not take a picnic and enjoy the view from the farmer's companion seat situated in one of the cider orchards?

Kings and Turrets Nearby Eastnor Castle is a historic house filled with medieval armour and fine art. In the beautiful grounds, you will find an arboretum, lake, knight’s maze and children’s adventure playground (don't miss the ice cream parlour!).

Golden Delicious Herefordshire is well known for its cider apple orchards with two local producers in Ledbury itself. Westones Cider is a popular local tipple, and the visitor centre and orchards are well worth a visit.

Malvern Hills The Malvern Hills have been described as a mountain range in miniature; the eight mile ridge contains some of the oldest rocks in Britain and their craggy outline is reminiscent of the uplands further west into Wales. A walk in the Hills is strenuous enough that Mallory walked here in preparation for his ascent of Everest. Today you can enjoy over 3000 acres of open countryside climbing to the highest point at Worcestershire Beacon or relax whilst quietly rambling along the wooded slopes.

Magic and Intrigue The spectacular gardens at Hampton Court are a 30 minute drive away. The castle stands on the meadows of the River Lugg and has 12 acres of lavish gardens. Children will love the maze with a gothic tower at the centre and the underground tunnel that leads to a waterfall in the sunken garden.

Visit Ledbury This lovely, thriving Herefordshire town littered with half-timbered homes, quaint galleries and independent boutiques has won the accolade of best high street in the country on numerous occasions. It is also home to one of the country's most prestigious poetry festivals which draws the crowds from far and wide. Here the affluent, famous and a wealth of literary masters come together to talk words in the most gorgeous of rural English settings.

The light and airy open-plan living and kitchen area has a relaxed dining table for lively family suppers with views out over the hills. Cook up a storm in the shaker-style kitchen with the very best of local fodder, with a glass of the homemade cider from the farm's apples to accompany, of course!

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

Just two miles down the road lie The Oak Inn and The Farmer's Arms, both of which come highly recommended for traditional fresh fare and an authentic country pub atmosphere. For special occasions, head to Verzon House in nearby Ledbury. Owned by the Chase family, famed for their award-winning spirits, be sure to sample their eclectic cocktail combinations which feature their very own vodka and gin.
