Luxury self-catering retreat with rustic interiors in the Malvern Hills

Hidden within the remains of a forgotten fruit farm, Wishbone's deserted appearance conceals the rustic beauty which lies beneath. Dating back to the 16th Century and Grade-II listed, this luxury self-catering barn conversion has been lovingly restored to retain original timbers, stone walls and vaulted truss ceilings. The Victorian spa town of Malvern is just three miles away, along with the Malvern Hills AONB. So whether sampling the area's medicinal spring waters, watching the sunrise from a soaring volcanic peak or simply romancing within the rough stone walls of your secret hideaway, this is the perfect couples' retreat.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The king-size bed lies behind a heavy puddled curtain off the living space, dressed in fresh white linens with an adjoining en suite shower room. The upstairs hayloft has a pastoral hideout feel and is great for afternoon naps, featuring a wooden door which swings open to the wilderness.

Blue barn doors open onto a cobbled patio set with a dining table and festoon bulbs. The terracotta pots of mint, chives and lavender smell especially divine after a dose of summer rain, or beside the glowing embers of the Kadai fire bowl. Lunch should always be an al fresco affair at Wishbone. Wander through the apple trees to find a private picnic area beside the fishing lake, or plod on to explore a 15 further acres of fields filled with ancient oak trees. Keep watch for the resident kingfisher, who flits between the lake and the pond within the Eden-esque grounds.

For Relaxation

Tumbling down the side of a forested ridge, the 9 mile-long stretch of volcanic rock which comprises the Malvern Hills is a must. Take your pick from a network of scenic walking trails through unspoilt countryside, or unwind on a gentle journey downstream on a canoe tour of the river Wye. Whatever the day's adventures bring, you can be sure of a magical evening back at Wishbone. Head down to the firepit by the lake with a lantern in one hand and flask of cocoa in the other and watch the moon dance over the water's surface.

There is ample space to park two cars by the stables. Inside, the eclectic open-plan kitchen includes an Everhot Range cooker, fridge, small freezer, slimline dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster and washing machine.
