Romany | Luxury Self-Catering Cabin | Romney Marsh, Kent

Romany

Romney Marsh, Brookland, Kent, UK

Earthy hues, industrial accents and an abundance of natural light; this luxury wooden cabin on the edge of Romney Marsh gives a sense of being holed up on the sprawling prairie lands of the American South. Better still, you're just two hours from London and a short drive from both Rye and Winchelsea beach. Tactile fabrics, an alfresco dining area settled beneath a glittering disco ball and hot tub surrounded by headily scented herbs make Romany a truly romantic feast for all the senses.

Introduction

Designers Dave Coote and Atlanta Bartlett have created a unique cabin retreat near Rye and the Kent coast, a secret escape which welcomes guests to fall into step with the gentle tempo of Romney Marsh. Epitomising pure relaxation, there's a laid-back feel to the design scheme; think winter nights curled by the woodburner and lazy summer mornings breakfasting in the cottage garden. Whether on a solo artist's retreat or honeymoon, guests will feel far-removed from the everyday at this luxury self-catering hideaway.

Inside

Vintage fabrics and carefully curated finds form the basis of Romany's interior scheme, which has been featured within the pages of many a coffee table book. The open-plan living space exudes hints of coastal charm within its painted shiplap walls. With an eclectic edge but no compromise on indulgence, Romany is an uplifting couple's retreat that embraces its whimsical setting with vigour. Designed with romance in mind, the cabin's luxury bedroom features a striking chandelier and clawfoot bath that together emit an inimitable vintage glamour.

Outside

A white picket fence, a colourful flower and herb garden and a hot tub for two tucked away far from view; Romany's outdoor space offers a taste of The Good Life. Complete with orangery summer room, guests will idle many an hour away on the daybed before enjoying a lazy sunset supper of local cheeses and freshly baked bread under the pear tree. If one can, step outside the Romany bubble and explore the many beaches of the nearby Kent coast including Camber Sands and Winchelsea Beach.

From the owner

“The cabin is perfectly situated for you to enjoy the stunning countryside and the gorgeous Romney Marsh - also known as the Fifth Continent - with its wide open vistas, special micro climate and proximity to miles of beautiful coastline filled with wildlife and beaches.”

From the owner

We have lived on Romney Marsh for 15 years and totally adore it. At times it is like an onslaught to your senses with fragrant smells of rape fields in the spring, wheat in the summer and the rich marshy earth in the winter. In the summer we wake every day to the sound of birdsong, the roar of the poplar trees and the extraordinary 'chorus' of the marsh frogs.

Romney Marsh is a nature lovers paradise; bats, foxes, badgers, mink, stoats, water voles, hares, field mice and moles are all welcome residents here while birdwatchers flock from all over the world to catch a sight of the amazing and rare array of birdlife from marsh harriers, kestrels, nightingales, cuckoos, herons, cormorants, woodpeckers, and barn owls.

Rare sightings include honey buzzards, European serins and purple herons. Romney Marsh is also home to the much protected great crested newt and many endangered insects... and we have it all in our back garden!

This is a land of smugglers, shipwrecks (the local pub was once a smugglers inn), long walks, cycling, birdwatching, beaches, windsurfing, fishing (you can catch mackerel off the beach at Dungeness) and all only an hour and a half from London.

Lovely location and views. Enjoyed the secluded nature of the property. The design and style was very relaxing and welcoming. The bedroom was lovely, very comfy bed and a great bath. The outdoor hot tub was a welcome addition. Overall we really liked the property.

The location was great. Close to many places we wanted to see and yet it felt very remote and so peaceful. Great to ‘come home’ to. Birdsong is the only thing you hear. Beautiful big sky and great walks.
