An idyllic home for multi-generational escapes, younger members of the group are free to enjoy a Swallows and Amazons adventure, while there’s time aplenty for parents to enjoy crisp G&Ts under the rose pergola. Wildlife watching, bracing morning walks and natural swimming are all optional, but well-deserved R&R is guaranteed.

Inside

Open-plan, light-filled living spaces sit alongside atmospheric rooms for socialising here at The Art House. Within art deco architecture, mid-century design finds fuse with an impressive artwork collection which spans three floors over the main house and  accommodates up to eight guests. With an individualistic identity to each room waiting to be discovered, interiors are vibrant, uplifting and energising. A king-size and twin bedroom can also be found a short walk from the main house within The Cabin (part of the pool house). This relaxed space is idyllic for languid beside-the-pool days and also features a sauna, table football and snooker table for rainy afternoons.

Outside

If it’s a back-to-nature break that you crave, The Art House has an abundance of green space to immerse yourself in. From the formal garden, complete with burbling rill, to Mediterranean-esque dining areas, wildflower meadow and vegetable garden; if the weather is favourable you're unlikely to stray far from your verdant haven. Complete with 17-metre heated outdoor pool, 50-metre swimming lake and tennis court; early morning dips are a must before heading off on foot to explore the surrounding South Downs. From the owner

“The Art House has been our home for 20 years, an escape from London and the place where we and our children have chosen to celebrate all the special times of our lives from important birthdays to the christening of our first grandchild.”

From the owner

There is a magic to sitting in the summerhouse with your glass of wine, watching the barn owl hunt over the meadow as the sun sets, or swimming with the dragonflies and a family of ducklings in the wild pond.

That's how we choose to start our days here, but you might prefer a more relaxed break taking in the stunning setting in which the house is immersed. From secluded yoga spots to energetic tennis 'events' with the obligatory glass of Pimms and strawberries at the ready, one thing that you can be assured of is that you won't find yourself short of things to do when you stay!

There are many beautiful walks along the South Down Way directly from the house if you want to really make the most of the countryside setting, but likewise, we find it an indulgence to have the time and space to simply be.
