The Flower Press
Bibury, Gloucestershire, The Cotswolds, UK
Flaunting emerald green creepers in spring that turn fire-red in autumn, The Flower Press is a restful self-catering cottage retreat tucked away in Bibury. Snow-white walls, candelabras, chandeliers and vibrant gardens brimming with anemones bring a feel of modern-day Provence to this gorgeous old Cotswold manse. With space for four guests and two dogs, here is the perfect cottage escape in the Cotswolds.
Introduction
Once a vicarage for England’s most beautiful village, now a romantic cottage retreat hidden behind ancient apple trees and iron gates, The Flower Press is a soothing and harmonious home. Perfectly placed for wandering picturesque Bibury, the rolling Cotswold hills and nearby Cirencester, a medieval town settled on the banks of the River Churn, you can spend days in hiking boots or heels (whatever your style), before returning to curl up by the woodburner.
Inside
Whitewashed furnishings, glimmering antiques and stone fireplaces run throughout while muted tones calm the senses and soften the soul. There's a wonderfully outfitted cottage kitchen for food aficionados, a TV snug with desk for home working (should you need to) and a bathroom that calls out to honeymooners. The master bedroom has a super king-size bed while the second bedroom is a zip-and-link which can be made up as a super king-size bed or twin to suit.
Outside
Start the day sipping tea beneath the apple blossoms before popping croissants in the oven and indulging in an al fresco breakfast. Arlington Row, one of Britain’s most iconic sights, is just a short stroll from the cottage while the streets and lanes of Bibury offer the perfect opportunity for snacking on locally made, freshly baked goodies and cradling hot coffee. On return, sip wine in the warm dusk light of the picturesque cottage garden.

From the owner
“The interior design at The Flower Press is led by light and gentle colours, providing a haven for a relaxing getaway.”

Originally built sometime around 1830 as the vicarage for the nearby Baptist chapel, The Flower Press is built of traditional Cotswold stone in a typical Georgian style.
Unusually for a house of this size and period, it has a more formal frontage of finely dressed stone and wonderfully high ceilings in the reception rooms. These features are thought to reflect its status and role in the community as the home of the chapel’s minister.
There are so many beautiful villages in the Cotswolds, and we’ve always found Bibury and the landscape of the Coln River Valley especially appealing. William Morris considered it to be the most beautiful village in England and we can’t help but agree with him.
We were excited to have found a property of such character in this beautiful part of the world and we hope that when you visit, you’ll feel the affection we have for this unique home.
