Luxury self-catering woodland cabin in North Wales

Introduction

Oh, baby it’s a wild world, but within the confines of this self-catering cabin all is quiet, all is still. Here all matter of busyness lifts away with the morning mist, swirling off between the trees and leaving nothing but blissful escapism. Designed with the dreamer and the nature-lover in mind, rough stone and exposed wood combine with soft sheepskin and crushed velvets for a wholly organic experience inside, while a whirlpool hot tub and sauna provide a warming al fresco space, even within the depths of winter.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Layered with plush cushions and thick throws, the king-size bed is a tempting place to while away the days at Ebony Wood, however, with such illustrious landscapes right outside the front door, leave one must. Enjoy drawn-out breakfasts beneath the duvet before heading out to explore Snowdonia National Park, relishing in the knowledge of deep slumber at the end of the day. The en suite bathroom and WC flaunts a statement natural stone sink and raw wood furnishings, with a large walk-in shower hidden behind the privacy of a black glass screen.

Outside

With views of the River Conwy in one direction and dense forest in the other, Ebony Wood’s exterior is pure delight for those seeking to run far from the hustle of inner-city living. Spend summer evenings creating culinary masterpieces in the outdoor kitchen before sinking into the hot tub as the mountain air cools with the night. On those North Wales days where the snow blankets the ground, warm through in the sauna while magic spreads across the land.

For Relaxation

North Wales and Snowdonia National Park are an adventure-lovers playground; stand up paddle board in the icy shadow of Wales’ tallest mountain, fly across zip lines in underground caves or hike to your heart’s content across coastlines and hills. Of course, relaxation doesn’t have to involve adrenaline-seeking activities; wander Ebony Wood’s three acres of woodland before settling onto the outdoor sofa with a bottle of red, buzzards swooping overhead.

The Practicalities

There is ample parking for several cars at the end of the private gravel drive. The kitchen includes a fridge with freezer drawer, oven, induction hob and dishwasher. Guests are welcome to explore the adjoining woodland, but are asked not to walk up the drive or enter the horse paddock. Please note that there are several steps and levels throughout the garden and cabin.

Our Take

Property Owners Jane and Justin say

The summerhouse has always been our little hideout, we turn off our phones, close the gate and forget the world for as long as we can. We love listening to the sea birds on the foreshore in the morning, watching the buzzards catching thermals in the afternoon and hoot to the owls at night.

Out & About

Snowdonia Snowdonia National Park, just a stone's throw from the cabin, covers 838 square miles of wonderful wilderness and is one of only three natural parks in Wales. With its formidable mountain shield which wouldn't look out of place in a JRR Tolkein book, the landscape is breathtaking and unique.

Stand Up Paddleboarding Experience North Wales and the Angelsey coast from a different perspective with Psyched Paddleboarding. Whether a beginner's session in the icy shadow of Snowdon or a night SUP through the National Park, take in the majesty of this remote part of the United Kingdom from the winter instead of by foot.

Mountain Railway For those who'd rather sit back than hike to the summit, the Snowdon Mountain Railway is a must. Taking visitors up to the 'roof of Wales' on 4.7-miles of single track line, the train is a journey in itself, visitors with awe-inspiring scenery. Remember to check the website for daily journey details.

Bodnant Gardens Established in 1874, this National Trust gem nestles beautifully in the foothills of Snowdonia. From manicured lawns to terraces filled with colourful blooms, wildflower meadows and water gardens with towering trees, this botanical garden is the perfect day out.

FOOD AND DRINK

Home-Cooked

With an outdoor kitchen overlooking the mountains and a wide variety of excellent farm shops and local butchers within the area, staying in is the new going out. Bodnant Welsh Food just two miles away will be your go-to for deli delights, fresh bread and wine, TJ Parry Jones and Daughter is your one-stop shop for fresh pies (perfect for snacking on those long mountain treks!).

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering stay indulging in the little luxuries, let a private chef prepare meals for you and your partner (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

Highly recommended by the owner are Enochs Fish and Chips, not far from the cabin, which offers comfortable dining and a lobster night not to be missed. For a lively weekend night out, Asha Balti is an award-winning Indian restaurant in Llanrwst while the Groes Inn is traditional Welsh pub at its best; great food, cask ales and an unrivalled atmosphere.
