The Wool Shed | Luxury Self-Catering Cottage | Newquay, Cornwall

The Wool Shed

Trebudannon, Newquay, Cornwall, UK

Exuding an off-the-beaten track appeal, the Wool Shed is a hand-crafted luxury cottage nestled in the Cornish hamlet of Trebudannon, near Watergate Bay. With a rustic lux interior scheme, this former wool drying store has been lovingly converted into a modern-day self-catered barn for families and couples alike. Laid-back luxury reigns in this dog-friendly holiday cottage; affording an indulgent self-catered escape for those seeking rejuvenation.

Introduction

A luxury self-catered retreat, if it’s rest and relaxation you crave, then the Wool Shed offers this in abundance. With a pared-back, understated appeal, open-plan living creates a space that is bright and light-filled, complete with sinkable sofas and cosy blankets. An uplifting space in which to recline, the verdant garden that envelopes the Wool Shed creates an immersed in nature essence, many an hour will be spent submerged in the hot tub or alfresco cooking. If you’re seeking exploration, aside from muddy walks from the doorstep of the Wool Shed, you’re just 10-minutes from the dog-friendly beaches of Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth.

Inside

With a striking industrial interior design flavour, the Wool Shed gets back to basics with its hand-crafted and carefully curated interior scheme. There’s an industrial edge to the rough sawn timber and concrete accents, while age-worn leather chairs are adorned with sheepskin rugs and agricultural finds; reflecting the rural setting in which the Wool Shed nestles. A central woodburner sets the scene for the cosiest of winter retreats in this open-plan barn conversion, which is as much a family-friendly domain – there’s ground floor twin room that leads directly into the garden - as it is a luxury retreat for couples; the master bedroom with spacious bathroom is designed with relaxation in mind.

Outside

Antipodean-inspired living, a wall of sliding glass barn doors embrace the indoor-outdoor theme at The Wool Shed. A private and enclosed garden, with borders brimming with botanicals, from the hot tub to the outdoor fire, the Wool Shed garden is a verdant and tranquil space for reflection. Ambient after-dark lighting creates a warm and welcoming glow, while the outdoor fire ensures that you can enjoy this space, blanket at the ready, year-round. Heading out to explore the rolling countryside on foot is a must; and as we welcome up to two dogs at the Wool Shed you can also enjoy discovering many of the nearby dog-friendly beaches.

From the owner

“It was integral to create an interior that reflected the history of the barn while retaining a home-from-home feel; a place where every day starts with indulgent lie-ins and ends cosied up around the fire.”

From the owner

I have many childhood memories of the Wool Shed. To my parents, the barn was a functional farm building - a store house and then later, a piggery. For us wild young things it was the perfect hideout; a place to construct makeshift rope swings, scrutinise the latest bug hunt finds and to daydream about horse riding victories.

When it came to breathing life back into what was a disused and forlorn shell, I wanted in part to recreate those carefree days. Turning the dream into reality took a huge amount of patience and perseverance - but it was well worth the effort! I love spending time here and have idled many an hour away lazing on the sofa book in hand and making the most of the weather with impromptu alfresco gatherings that have gone on until long after sunset!

Whilst tearing yourself away from the suntrap garden can be tricky, it's worthwhile heading out on foot from the Wool Shed as there are some stunning countryside walks to discover, but if you'd rather spend your time with toes in the sand you're just a stone's throw from Cornwall's finest when it comes to white sandy beaches, perfect!

Guest Testimonials

We have had a wonderful time at the Wool Shed - thank you. It is absolutely perfect and quite idyllic - a real gem! Thank you and the team for ensuring that our stay was smooth, as always!

We had a wonderful stay at The Wool Shed. The decor was a fabulous mix of traditional and trendy and there was plenty of kitchen equipment, we wanted for nothing. The bathrooms were gorgeous and we made good use of the bi- fold doors and garden as we had great weather. The bedding was top quality and altogether we had a fab stay. We’d love to come back, thank you.

We have had a great time here staying in your lovely cottage, exploring the surrounding area which is beautiful. We will be back!

We loved The Wool Shed,it was set in a lovely hamlet and the walks nearby were wonderful. Everything was perfect, the provided store cupboard essentials and the hamper were brilliant - hardly needed to shop! Would definitely come again!

Amazing decor and quality of build. Very pleased we could bring our dog to a luxury cottage as he is very well behaved and other companies have a tendency to discriminate against pets. We have had a perfect holiday and will be using your company again, thank you so very much!

We just want to say a huge thank you for sharing this wonderful house with us. Spending our minimoon here has been absolutely perfect. It is a perfect house to relax and unwind and not far from so many of the areas we wanted to visit. It´s just difficult to leave now and head back to normality.

We have had an amazing stay at The Wool Shed. Just what the doctor ordered following a mad 4 weeks! We don´t want to leave this sanctuary, we hope to return again. Thank you

The look of the property really appealed to our sense of style. The enclosed garden was great for our small dogs. We loved the remoteness, the real fire was beautiful in the evenings after a day out. The hamper was a wonderful surprise, the goodies were amazing. It was like Christmas had come early. We loved the thought of local produce being in there. We were like kiddies in a sweetie shop! It was an exceptional touch. Thank you.

Thank you so much for letting us stay at The Wool Shed. The four of us had such a wonderful week exploring the Cornwall area, it was fabulous. The cottage could not have been nicer, the welcome hamper was well thought out and we used just about every bit of it!! Thanks again and we hope to return next year.

We have had a lovely stay in your gorgeous house. I appreciate what you have done with the space, making this cottage into a beautiful hideaway! I have even nabbed a few ideas for our own renovation. I love the vision that has gone into making this place truly amazing. I didn´t want to leave, so thank you! I can´t complain about a thing and I will definitely come back!

Thank you for letting us share this amazing retreat. My partner and I have well and truly relaxed (and next time the dogs will be able to experience all that the cottage and the area has to offer). Also thank you for the welcome hamper, it was a lovely touch!

Thank you for a wonderful place to stay. We loved it here and we have definitely picked up a few design ideas. The area is beautiful and Grace the dog has fallen in love with Watergate bay. We´ll be back!

Thank you for such an amazing stay here at The Wool Shed, we have had such a fantastic week. The house is beautiful in every way possible. We were blessed with great weather and have made many wonderful memories for one of our first family holidays together.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Wool Shed, it could not have been more perfect. Please pass on our thanks to the owners for a lovely Place. And thanks to your team for a smooth and easy process.

Everything was fabulous about the property and our stay - it exceeded all our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There is nothing bad I could say.

Quirky, modern design in a younger style - perfect as we try to avoided ´dated´ looking properties. We are very into interior design and would like to see even more properties with a focus on great modern design!

I would like to say a big thank you for our great weekend. Sarah, the owner, made such a good job of the conversion! My parents are currently converting their barn in Germany so I took few pictures to give them some inspiration!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay. Sarah and Andy were so friendly and welcoming. The property was decorated and styled to such a high standard. We will definitely be recommending The Wool Shed to friends and family!
