Pollyanna | Luxury Self-Catering Cottage | Birlingham, Cotswolds

Pollyanna

Birlingham, Worcestershire, Cotswolds, UK

Ever dreamed of escaping the daily grind and immersing yourself in a real-life fairy-tale without a care in the world? Welcome to Pollyanna. Sugar, spice and all things nice, this luxury thatched cottage is a whimsical retreat for six people set between the rolling hills and meadows of the Cotswolds. Exuding beauty and charm, here is a place where families can get lost between the pages of their very own enchanted fable.

Introduction

Pollyanna is cute-as-pie and bursting with wonder; think antique furniture, traditional beamed ceilings, uneven floors and the luxurious bed linens, all tastefully fused together. The idyllic Grade-II listed cottage is set in the olde-worlde Birlingham village in the Cotswolds complete with village hall, friendly local pub and time-honoured cricket ground. Cuddle up in winter and warm toes in front of the roaring woodburner, and in summer take a spot underneath the magnolia tree, absent-mindedly watching blossoms fall and birds flutter. Summer haven or winter retreat, Polyanna offers an enchanted family escape.

Inside

With two luxury double bedrooms and a pretty twin room sitting beneath the eaves, Pollyanna is equally as perfect for families as it is for couples looking for a romantic break away. The master double with en suite shower room sits on the ground floor in the thatched annexe, whilst the double and the quaint twin room (with views over the shared courtyard) are on the first floor, and sitting alongside the family bathroom. After a day's exploration of the surrounding Cotswolds countryside, return ruddy-cheeked before gathering around the dining table for a meal together, plates brimming and bottles flowing.

Outside

With a candy-coloured Wendy house, prettily thatched wishing well and plethora of hidden nooks in which to sit and watch the butterflies, the flower-filled gardens at Pollyanna are a faerie's delight. Little ones will be able to expend their limitless energy on the swings and trampoline in the large side garden, whilst adults savour the opportunity to sit with a cup of hot tea and enjoy the verdant surroundings. In season, take your pick from the cottage orchard which produces apples and pears, as well as cooking apples for homemade cinnamon-sprinkled fruit pie.

From the owner

“Pollyanna is romantic, quaint and so peaceful. We find one of the best places to sit is under the blossom tree sipping chilled wine and watching the children play - our idea of perfect long summer evenings.”

From the owner

A sense of wonder and excitement takes hold as you step through the doors of Pollyanna and are taken back in time. We hope that your cares slip away and peace and tranquillity take over amidst the romantic charm of the beautiful interiors we have created over the years.

We all adore it here, especially our little girls Henrietta and Martha; they just love living in the countryside with lots of lovely walks in the surrounding area, and the friendly helpful local villagers. We believe the cottage was built circa 1600. Since then, it has had a succession of owners, many of whom were born here at Pollyanna and are still living in the village today.
