This was the most perfect stay which absolutely exceeded our expectations. The location was dreamy and felt like we were surrounded by woodland. The interior decor was stunning and everything small thing had been thought about, even down to the slippers to use for the hot tub. We didn´t arrive until 9pm and we´re absolutely delighted to find the wood burner had been lit for us when we arrived. The sofa was very comfortable and the bed and bedding was the most comfortable one we´ve ever had away from home. We will definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed staying here so much. Everything you need is here. There are beautiful views from every window and it feels as if you are the only property in the area. We would most definitely come back.
Looking out at the festoon lighting and the stars from the Swedish tub was pretty magical, complimented by the nearby stream rolling over the rocks and the calls of the resident tawny owl. We had an absolute hoot (pun intended).
We really loved the stay, it was so relaxing and had everything we needed. Loved being able to sit outside in the garden even when it rained!
Super lodge, all fittings very high standard, excellent interior design, well equipped, great setting and lovely host. It was important to me that my dogs could stay at the lodge and even they were well catered for by the host.

Introduction
Hidden amongst the trees on the western slopes of the Conwy Valley, The Outpost offers an escape untethered from the noise of daily life. Once dedicated to recuperation, its origins still echo in an enveloping sense of sanctuary. Life here moves at a slower rhythm, shaped by small, nourishing rituals: lingering over breakfast as the light shifts through the branches, thumbing through a favourite novel, or watching the weather roll across the valley from the shelter of the pergola. In the distance, the peaks of Snowdonia rise like sentinels. From the moment you arrive via the private footbridge, The Outpost holds space for stillness.
Inside
The interiors of The Outpost express a sense of off-grid adventure. The layout has recently been reworked to let light and views take centre stage, whilst still maintaining a prairie-style cosiness. A standout painting by Mark Maggioni in the living space hints at open skies and western frontiers, while pennant flags, a woodburner, and woven textiles reinforce pioneer spirit. The bedroom is a characterful refuge where vintage furnishings nod to rustic Americana – from striped walls and gingham lampshades to a cast-iron bed dressed in layered linens. The en suite bathroom features a roll-top bath that invites post-hike soaks.
Outside
Tucked on the edge of the protected Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, The Outpost makes the most of its position. A wraparound balcony with a swinging egg chair offers a chance to decompress in the quiet company of trees, while a woodfired hot tub is perfectly situated for stargazing under internationally recognised dark skies. Whether stretching in the morning sun or savouring a bowl of cawl with laverbread under the pergola, time spent here feels restorative. A short walk away is the village of Rowen, with its historic pub, and beyond that, Conwy – a storied estuary town that holds World Heritage Site status for its 13th-century castle.

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge and freezer, air fryer, oven and grill with hob, and a dishwasher. A separate utility room houses a washing machine and clothes airer. Due to the cabin’s woodland setting, it can present challenges for guests with limited mobility. The garden is not fully enclosed for dogs, and due to livestock in neighbouring fields, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times in the grounds

Enveloped by lush Welsh countryside and watched over by the mighty mountains of Snowdonia, in the heart of this medieval walled market town hides a 13th-century fairytale castle, picturesque quay and smorgasbord of spots for fine dining.
Getting there
- On the map The cabin enjoys a private location within the village of Rowen, just five miles from Conwy and the north Wales coast.
- By car It is approximately a four and a half hour drive from Central London.
- By train Mainline railway links run from Llandudno Junction direct to London Euston, Cardiff and have frequent services to Manchester Airport.
- By air Manchester Airport is around a 60 minute drive from the property with car hire available at the airport.
“The Outpost was created as an escape from the day-to-day things that life throws at you.”
Built in the early 1950s by the owner of the local fulling mill, Ty Pandy, the cabin originally shared its plot with the mill. Local stories tell of The Outpost being constructed as a place of rest for ex-servicemen returning from war. Over time, it became a standalone property, now accessible only by the pedestrian bridge that crosses the Afon Roe. This river rises from the Afon Tafolog, which drains the eastern slopes of Drum – a peak in the Carneddau range – before flowing through the village of Rowen and joining the River Conwy.
Recently renovated to blend gently with the surrounding National Park woodlands, The Outpost makes the most of its elevated position. Framed by ancient trees and overlooking open fields, the setting is rich in birdsong and the occasional call of a sheep from across the valley. Come dusk, the forest stirs: owls call through the trees, and starlight dapples the canopy.

Are there any neighbours?
No, there are no immediate neighbours, the property is hidden between trees in the Conwy Valley, a real escape from daily life!
Can a second dog be accommodated?
The owner might be open to this if both dogs are very small, however as space is limited, two large dogs (Labrador size) would not be permitted. Please speak with the team for further details.
Is there a pub within walking distance?
Yes, there is a local pub that's just a 10 minute walk away, it serves food and has Welsh singing the last Friday of every month.
