The Wool Shed | Luxury Self-Catering Cottage | Newquay, Cornwall

With an off-the-beaten track feel, but set within a pretty hamlet, The Wool Shed is a hand-crafted luxury cottage in Cornwall. Exuding rusticity, scorched wooden floors, knotty textures and a palette of greys combine to convert what was originally a wool drying store into a modern-day abode for families and style aficionados.

Rustic stone cottage with open fire and hot tub, Cornwall

Nestled in a rural Cornish hamlet, just ten minutes from the beaches of Watergate Bay and Newquay, The Wool Shed oozes authentic rough-luxe charm. There’s an industrial flavour to the interiors, where wood, concrete and steel sit alongside authentic agricultural finds. As perfect a cosy winter abode as a summertime retreat; a central woodburner, sheepskins and rustic linens combine with Antipodean-inspired living, with a wall of sliding glass barn doors embracing the indoor-outdoor vibe. The Wool Shed is as perfect a base for exploring the North Cornish coast as it is for a getting-away-from-it-all self-catering escape with a focus on rest and relaxation.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

With patio doors that lead directly onto the deck, there’s a garden-room feel to the light-filled twin bedroom, where wrought-iron beds, crumpled linens, reclaimed furniture and vintage artwork combine. In the adjacent wet room – where there’s a monsoon rain shower big enough for two – there’s a pared-back minimalist feel. Upstairs, the master bedroom exudes stay-in-bed appeal; with a private deck providing the ideal spot for a morning coffee. You’re assured of an indulgent soak in the master en suite; complete with double-ended bath, vintage wagon wheel, twin sinks and farmyard-inspired accessories.

Encircled by a hedge of red robin and completely private, a living wall and vintage trugs combine in the tranquil garden space. Clever lighting creates an after-dark ambience perfect for summer’s eve gatherings, whether you’re enjoying a couple’s retreat or holidaying as a family. With country walks from your doorstep – there’s a beautiful woodland to explore just a couple of miles from the barn - whether you want the little ones to run free Swallows and Amazons style, make the most of the tranquillity amidst style-led surrounds, or discover dog-friendly beaches and eateries close by, The Wool Shed is an inspiring space for a creative break.

For Relaxation

Ensconced in the Cornish countryside, the setting of The Wool Shed is truly idyllic. Tranquil living combines with an authentic lived-in-and-loved feel that the carefully-collated interior finds afford, making this luxury rustic barn a unique choice for an alternative escape. Those inspired by the vintage finds may want to set about collating pieces for your own barn-inspired abode; there are a number of reclamation yards within a short distance to explore.

There is private parking for two cars. The kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer and combined washing machine dryer. The cottage is warmed by central heating and a log burner. The enclosed garden has an outdoor stone fireplace for al fresco evenings. The garden is dog-friendly.

Our Take

Property Owner Sarah says

For me it was integral to create an interior that reflected the history of the barn while retaining a home-from-home feel. I wanted the ambience of The Wool Shed to encourage around-the-fire catch-ups and lazy lie-ins.
