Introduction

The Isle of Skye takes its name from Skýey, meaning ‘Cloud Island’, coined by Vikings enraptured by the whirling mists over the Cuillin hills. Voted 4th best island in the world by National Geographic, this raw diamond offers 50 miles of wind-scoured moorland, jagged mountains and sparkling lochs in the Scottish Highlands. And, set on the serene shores of Loch Harport, Supernova is made all the more seductive. What better way to relax than with a brisk hike followed by a steamy affair in the sauna and soak in the bath? Let the bubbles soothe weary muscles and breath-taking panoramas lift your spirits.

Inside

In contrast to the vistas of raw wilderness outside, the interiors of this luxury cottage are striking and plush. Supernova's clean monochrome theme adds a contemporary twist, but original features and soft furs retain a traditional Highland charm. To add to its quirky appeal, this beautiful Isle of Skye retreat flaunts a reversed-level design, ensuring the living areas make the most of the awe-inspiring views. The king-size bedroom sits on the ground floor down the bespoke spiral staircase, complete with its own en suite. Also on this level is a sauna and double-ended bath; perfect to wash off a day's exploring.

Outside

The famous and formidable Cullin Mountains are a playground for valiant mountaineers and rock climbers who dare to hike its jagged peaks and rocky terrain. Of course adrenaline isn't for all, and the less venturesome may prefer to admire Skye's sci-fi film scenery by taking to four wheels. Or, perhaps a boat trip down the placid waters of Mallaig to Armadale past the iconic Glenfinnan Monument and white sands of Morar. The local village of Carbost is a traditional highland affair, with local shop, friendly inn and world-famous distillery. Don't forget to pick up some artisan whisky to savour by the fire on return to Supernova.

From the owner

“Perched on a highland hillside with stunning views across the loch, Supernova makes a great base to discover this peaceful, historic island. Whatever the weather, we think it is just the most perfect and peaceful place to be.”

From the owner

Skye has always been close to our heart and Supernova has strengthened our ties to the highlands.

The chapel was originally built in the 1920s by the Church of Scotland to serve the parishioners in Carbost and the surrounding area. After falling into disrepair, the chapel came up for sale in 2003 and a local family with longstanding ties to the chapel sympathetically converted the building into a unique holiday retreat. The house retains many of the original features, including the two entrance doors and arched windows.

For us, it was love at first sight! Unparalleled views coupled with the peace and tranquillity of the chapel is what we craved away from our busy lives in London, and Supernova gives us everything we dreamed of.

Guest Testimonials

Stunning setting, the chapel was beautifully finished - very cosy and an amazing space to spend time in. Waking up to the view of the loch every morning was simply stunning and restorative.

We had a fantastic week exploring the island! What a magical and spectacular place. We´ll definitely be back to visit Supernova again, we can´t wait to create more special memories here.

Absolutely stunning, and exceeded all our expectations. The chapel is spotless and in a beautiful location and has everything we could have wanted. Thank you for allowing us to stay.

What better place to honeymoon than this gorgeous chapel. We have loved every minute. Sunsets from the upstairs window, candle-lit baths, and lots of whisky. Gorgeous sunshine every day, swimming in the fairy pools and lots of dancing at The Bell Inn in the village. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

We wanted to move in! It’s perfect. Location, size, style, furniture - bed was so comfy. We also loved the sauna and the bath with a view. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the basic cooking ingredients. Loved that there was Highland soap and even bubble bath.

An excellent venue for our engagement! Supernova provided great access to the whole of the island. Remote enough that you felt you had escaped the rest of the world but close enough to civilisation to get a delicious coffee and walk to the pub!

We had a wonderful honeymoon at Supernova! The property is stunning in every way, from the location to the beautiful and luxurious style. We will be back to celebrate our anniversary for sure!

We have had a great time staying at Supernova. The property is stunning and in excellent condition. We were very impressed by the cleanliness of everything, and the numerous items for outdoor and indoor leisure activities. The welcome hamper was very much enjoyed! Supernova is a well-designed property and one we will choose to book again.

We love the property and location. It is very homely, roomy and comfortable. The sauna in particular is fantastic! We just loved looking out over the Loch and the surrounding scenery, and being welcomed home by the sheep each time we returned to Supernova. The remoteness was just what we were after. We´d love to stay again!

Lovely location and house, centrally located and ideal for exploring the island. We loved the level of care and thoughtfulness at the property, Supernova felt like a true home-from-home.

Supernova is a wonderfully relaxing place to stay. The amenities are excellent, the little extra touches made us feel very welcome and the views are fantastic. We couldn´t have asked for a better place to stay and Brandy, our Scottie, had a great time too, especially in the garden. Outside offers a great place to sit and chill with a glass of wine. There is so much to see and do but make sure you have at least one meal at the Old Inn in Carbost and take a boat trip with Bella Jane!

We have returned home from Supernova and had a great break away. The chapel is lovely and certainly is in a beautiful location. Cannot wait to return in the future. Thank you!

This place is magical. Supernova was clearly put together with love, it felt so luxurious without ever losing the sense of being in the heart of the Highlands. We spent most of our time on the sofas upstairs, with the huge window overlooking Carbost. It is still our favourite holiday to date. I wish we could go back tomorrow.

My husband and I stayed at Supernova for our honeymoon. There is only one word for it - wonderful! There was nothing missing, if you needed something you just knew it would be there. We did not want to leave. Thank you so much.
