We stayed for 15 nights, arriving tired after our journey from the USA, and immediately felt at home in this comfortable and charming Cotswold cottage. It was fully equipped and met our needs in every way, even with different family members joining us at various times. Despite the scorching weather, we enjoyed the cooler mornings and evenings in the lovely, secluded back garden. A wonderful place to stay and a perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds.
Thank you for saving our Christmas after our booking was cancelled with another agent! The house was simply wonderful and beautifully decorated for Christmas, which was added to the location being dressed and festive too. We have had an amazing few days including our visits to see the Blenheim Palace Christmas lights, which were brilliant. We also had a great lunch at the Double Red Duke! Thank you once again!
This has been a wonderful family holiday, largely because of how beautiful and spacious Atticus is. The welcome hamper got us off to a very good start for breakfast, and we loved venturing out for dinner, and to the High Street in Broadway for high tea at The Lygon Arms. Lots of eateries in town for more usual dinners, but our most memorable night was celebrating a birthday with in-house catering done by Tailor Made Top Nosh. We hope we can return again very soon!
Atticus in Burford is an exemplary property. We were met by the host who made us feel very welcome. The kitchen and bedrooms were really great but the lounge is exceptional. Moreover, it is in a wonderful location close to many pubs, restaurants and local boutique shops.
What a beautiful, beautiful house. We are so grateful to be here for our first trip outside of London since before lockdown. We´re so glad we chose to spend a week here. Thank you for taking care of us so brilliantly. It has been a real treat and such a special holiday.
A gem of a house. Thank you for sharing it and for having us here, creating great family memories. Your attention to detail makes everything so welcoming. We will be back!
This is my first time in a Unique Homestay property and I am so impressed, Atticus is amazing and it has made me want to book my next Unique Homestay already! The house manager is absolutely wonderful, it was such a special time and we appreciated all of her hard work in making it such a beautiful home. The property is done out like a five-star hotel and is spotless, the bedlinens are luxurious, the furniture is practical but also elegant and everything is so well thought through for a comfortable stay. I absolutely loved our stay and have already recommended it to several friends.
We´ve had a wonderful weekend spent together with family for a really special birthday celebration, such precious memories made in this gorgeous house in beautiful Burford. Thank you.
What a wonderful stay for a special birthday celebration! Such a beautiful house and such comfy beds! Storm Dennis didn’t dampen our spirits as it was a great excuse to snuggle up by the fire! Thank you for being so warm and welcoming. We will be recommending the house to all our friends and family!
Atticus is everything and more than we expected. Such an amazing house full of character and that special homely feel, which was so appropriate for the celebration of our sons 30th Birthday.
Atticus is a mixture of history and modernity, everything in it is perfect. The interior design, the cleanliness, the attention to detail, everything made us feel at home. We didn´t want to leave! We have stayed with Unique Homestays before and it´s honestly always the best service we receive compared to other agents worldwide. You should expand your services across the globe, the Unique Homestays team and the housekeepers are very helpful. You are the best! Thank you again for everything.

Atticus
Burford, Oxfordshire, The Cotswolds, UK
Treacle-toned Cotswold stone, iron gates and heavy antique double doors hint at this Grade-II listed home’s colourful past. Once a courthouse and later a jail, Atticus can be found jostling amongst a row of period buildings dating back to Tudor times at the upper end of Burford's bonnie High Street. Now magnificently restored in all its glory, luxury self-catering holidays in the Cotswolds don't get much more golden than this. Read more...

Burford
Often called the ´gateway to the Cotswolds’, this yellow-stone town is all Oxfordshire charm; from its tiny antique shops to the scenic surrounds.

Getting there

- By train The nearest train station is Charlbury which is nine miles away, with direct links to London Paddington.
- By air Both Birmingham and Heathrow airport are just over an hour's drive away.

“We were delighted when we found the house and just love spending time with our daughters and grandchildren here. The house is light, free-flowing and, whilst Grade-II listed, has a modern twist hidden behind the traditional Cotswolds stone façade.”
Atticus was designed by William Wilkinson, a prominent Oxfordshire architect famed for the Randolph Hotel in Oxford. After beginning life as a police station and county courthouse, it served as a magistrates court until the 1970s then later an office space. Today our beautiful Grade-II listed home includes a luxurious drawing room (the old court room) of some 30ft long with three picture windows overlooking The Hill. The former Judges Chambers is now the TV/games room.
The interior design is inspired by the tradition of English country house elegance and lifestyle. We worked with London -based interior designer Michael Collins to create rooms that have been gracefully and eloquently designed with striking simplicity but showing attention to lighting, furnishings, fabrics and personal comfort.
Atticus sits in Burford, a town in the Cotswolds National Landscape – one of the most beautiful areas in the UK, renowned for its honey-hued buildings, rolling grasslands and woods. Burford High Street is teeming with fantastic restaurants, award-winning pubs, independent shops, galleries and cafés. For those who love outdoor activities, the picturesque walking and cycling routes around Burford are perfect for enjoying the scenic views. The River Windrush, which flows through the town, offers tranquil spots for picnicking or leisurely strolls.
Burford is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful, wider Cotswolds countryside. We also recommend visiting Broadway, Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton and Stow-on-the-Wold. Clarkson’s farm and shop are around a 15-minute drive away, and his pub – The Farmer’s Dog – is about 10 minutes. Also nearby is the award-winning Daylesford Farm, whose organic restaurant is the first in the UK to be recognised with a Green Michelin Star.
