Luxury self-catering accommodation in Coverack
Poised on a coastal crescent in south Cornwall is this hidden gem on the Lizard Peninsula. Families love pebble-picking on the beach and boat-watching at the quay, while geologists explore the famed rocks.
For a small place, this picturesque, bustling fishing village has something for everyone and is equally rich in history, botany and geology. Start with a trip to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary just out of town in Gweek, where you can visit the sweet residents before they are released back into the wild. Walkers trek the coast path, spotting wildflowers and the half-hidden mossy ramparts of the old Chynalls Cliff Castle along the way. Geologists remark the area as one of the few places in the world where the boundary between the earth's crust and mantle can be seen.
This is the seaside of course, and those sparkling turquoise waters are just waiting to be dipped into. Aqua enthusiasts can head on over to Coverack’s Windsurfing Centre to rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards or book a windsurfing lesson. Time for a treat? A couple of miles up the road is St Keverne, home of Roskilly’s delicious ice cream. Visitors are invited to take a stroll around the working organic farm to meet the animals, happy in the knowledge that the home-made cookie dough scoop they are enjoying comes with literally zero food miles.
