Luxury self-catering accommodation in Tintagel

Towards the top of the rugged north Cornwall coastline, this characterful Cornish village is strolling distance to the sea, with a stunning, crumbling clifftop castle.

Guests visit Tintagel to explore the village's historic castle, a local icon full of myth and legend, deeply associated with King Arthur, and Tristan and Iseult. Perched at the top of a lofty headland, the beautiful ruin requires a hike along a narrow walkway up to the crumbling castle gate. Merlin's Cave just below has swirling waters and mysterious shadows; try to spot the wizard's face carved into the rock by a local artist. In the village, there is plenty to discover with trinket shops and tea rooms, cosy pubs and a quirky old post office set in its own lush gardens.

You're never far from a beach here and Tintagel is flanked by several picture-perfect sandy spots, like sheltered Bossiney Cove, or Trebarwith Strand with its rolling breakers favoured by surfers. Back on-shore from the big waves there's much for families to do. Nature-lovers can drive to St Nectan's Glen, where wooden walkways offer an up-close look at a natural wonder; here, the River Trevillet has carved through slate, creating an ethereal waterfall. Legends of fairies and pixies are rife in this vale, but many visitors are happy with a magical cream tea from the café.
